Are angelfish hardy or they sensitive?

Hello! I am interested on getting an angelfish for my 30 gallons! And I have some questions.

1. Are angelfish hardy or they sensitive?

2. Can I keep one with a single pearl gourami in a 30 gallon?

3. Is there any good tank mates for angelfish in a 30 gallon? So far I have corydoras.

 

Most common angelfish are pretty hardy. If it were a wild angel then it’ll most certainly be sensitive to water conditions.
Play around with to figure out your stock. Insert your tank dimensions and filter and the fish you are interested in and it will tell you if they can go together. Keep stocking level under 85% and filtration over 100%. I personally wouldn’t add a gourami and an angel together since they will both need the top portion of the tank and will eventually have territorial issues.
Your tank would basically be overstocked with the angelfish and a shoal of cories.

 

My 2 angels are definitely angels because they pick on nobody. I think a Gourami would be fine but I would go with a full size and not dwarf. Look into any bottom feeders as well. KuhlI loaches are awesome.

Angels are my favorite fish and I love gouramis also, BUT I would not advise putting them together in a tank that size. If you decide to get an angel, I suggest getting a small one so he can grow and mature with his tank mates. I have a large Koi Angel as my centerpiece in a 29 gal. planted community tank with neons, corys, and platies. They all matured together and the angel is as gentle as a lamb.

2 angels can live together but again, your tank is still to small especially since you have the cories. Once they pair off, no matter if it’s M/F or F/F they will spawn or try to spawn and will chase away every fish they see. I would only do 1 angel. a 29 is minimum IMO for an angel, considering their adult size. That’s just me though. I always understock my tanks.

Yes they are but they also don’t care about territory. They’ll wander into any fishes territory until they get chased away over and over. They also occasionally go to the surface to get some air if your water isn’t well oxygenated.

That’s just my opinion. They get too big for a 20 and every fish should have the room they need to swim plus more.

My two are in are in a 125 gallon, they came with the tank and I’m not sure if their gender. I would only get one for your tank due to the size.

Out of curiosity, what kind of tank mates do you have for your angelfish?

In the 125 gallon. Some of those fish came with it and some I had in my 30 gallon. You can always do what I did and overstock your 30 slightly and see what fish work together in the confined area then after a while of them growning get a larger aquarium, but ONLY do this if you know that you have space and disposable income for the larger tank. It’s easier to buy fish then to rehome them.
