Are algae wafers harmful to bettas?

Jett went into the 5 gallon tank tonight because it seems that Cujo and Romeo are still going to be battling their fin rot for a while. The only other inhabitant of my 5 gallon tank is my apple snail Fuji. I dropped in some algae wafer to feed her and Jett saw it fall and had to investigate. Now he is eating her algae wafer and she is cruising off in the other direction. I don't think that algae wafers will be harmful to him, but I just wanted to ask to be sure. It says all kinds of lovely things about them on the back of the package   The brand is HikarI Tropical algae wafers. Jett has always been sort of a bottom feeder since I got him, so I'm not surprised that he continues this in the new tank.

Other than that, he seems to be doing great in the Hex5. His other tank was a mini-bow 2.5g and it took him a while to get comfortable in it, but this tank he is exploring and cruising around right away. So far he hasn't messed with FujI at all, other than to scoot off when he accidentally brushed up against her and she twitched. The filtration is stronger in there b/c I am running two filters right now, but he seems to be ok with the extra current. I hope he can find a calm place to rest tonight, probably in the little cave after he finishes that wafer...

Edit: I ended up removing the wafer from the tank. He just wouldn't leave it be, even after I moved it over to FujI and she was eating on it. He kept trying to get in there while she was eating, so I just took it out and put it in the baby snail tank. FujI also gets spinach and cucumbers in her veggie clip, so hopefully that will be enough for her and he won't mess with that. I was worried he was getting too much to eat, and his little belly was looking so chubby. Silly fish...

the algae wafers gave our Bettas constipation trouble, but they were a different brand and they ate almost half of a wafer. If he shows any signs, just put him on the pea diet and he should be cleared up in short order.

I've heard of Bettas liking to steal a snails wafer.. perhaps if you put part of a wafer under your snail while distracting Jett? (so Jett wouldn't have any sticking out to go after)

I dunno, you may have to keep with the fresh stuff and maybe break up the wafer so that he can't grab it all. When I had Rusty he found the most ingeious ways to get at sinking wafers and would grab them in his mouth and make off with them. Once a betta gets an idea into its head it is difficult to break the habit.

Jett is definitely the brattiest of my little brats. Poefox you are right about him getting that idea in his head and not letting go of it. I spent about 10 minutes chasing him away from that wafer and he came back every time until I gave up and removed it.

It will be hard to see if he poos in this tank as it has gravel in the bottom. But I will just hold back his pellets for today, and consider Sunday to be his fast this week. I hope he doesn't get constipated, the little brat.

Yeah I don't feed my oto's the wafers anymore, unless the Betta is out of the tank in a different one then I will. I usually just stick with the fresh vegetables. Nat
