Aqueon Versa-lid

Not sure where to put this so please feel free to move if in the wrong place mods.

I need to cut the three 16" versalids I bought for my 5.5 gallon tanks, because I have them side by side short-ways, so the lid has to be 8 inches across rather than 16, but I am having trouble removing the hinges to cut the glass. Has anybody ever taken the hinge off and have any ideas on how I can do this without breaking the glass? I would probably hot glue them back on when I am done or use silicone.

The hinges usually are not glued on, because I was able to pop mine off immediately by pulling out at the top.

Thanks, I will keep trying. I must be really weak because I have pulled and pulled and they are not even budging an inch.

Could you try using a thin object to get underneath the hinge to loosen it?

I got one of them off, one side, and then the other side, don't have a clue what is holding them on because there is no glue or silicone in there but they are tight. But, to cut the glass, huge pain in the butt, and I do not know what I am doing, so the sides came out ragged and since I cut it short-ways, it only comes to 6 inches long from front to back so that leaves about 8 inches open, so unless I keep cutting and attaching extra pieces, this will only cover the front of the tank.

This is my setup. It is a shelving unit, and I have three 5.5 G tanks on 1 shelf next to each other, have one light that spans all 3 tanks, and I just cannot find lids for them, so they have no cover on them right now and water evaporates like crazy. I had cut this hard plastic to fit the tops but the new light I bought just looks much nicer without this plastic on it, so looking for acrylic or glass and thought I could cut down my Aqueon lids to fit.

Might try a piece of Plexiglas, but wanted the hinge thingy so I can just lift the front.
