Still setting up my 37 gallon freshwater tanks and Bought an Aqueon quiet 50 to use and was also thinking of using the fluval 50 that is currently In my 20 gallon after the fish relocation. from what I've read online and you can't have too much filtration. Also a powerhead 50 wondering if adding that to would also be too much?

indeed, the more filtration you have the better.

what kind of fish were you thinking of putting in the tank? just thinking about the currents created by the powerhead.

well they are all currently in the 20 right now bunch of them were given to me with long with the tank or the tank wasn't ready yet so they are temporarily all in the 20 fish as follows: 3 neon tetra, 1 Cardinal tetra, 1 black skirt tetra, 4 serpae tetra, 3 Cory, 1 koi angel

indeed, the more filtration you have the better.

I believe you cannot have too much filtration (waste processing).

However, you can have too much current (flow).

Your aquarium should not resemble a washing machine (for most inhabitants).

I was just going to say that -and it depends a lot on what fish you have too, eg. I have regular swordtails/mollys/platys in 20G tanks, with 450L/hr flow rate, while it's perfect for these fish, I've found I can't keep lyretail swordtails in there, they only have slightly longer fins but don't survive as the flow rate is too much for them with their 'modified' finnage. Also, fry get sucked up into the filters, so high flow rate or too much filtration is also no good if you're trying to get fry (depending on what you're breeding).

A diffuser can be put on the output and a sponge can be put on the intake.
