Aquascaping ideas

Revan

Hi everyone,

I'm still cycling my tank so far, but I've been wondering what to add to my aquascape for now. I've attached my tank's picture. I have a java fern behind the piece of wood, and an anubias in the front. To the very left of the tank, I'm thinking of adding a stem plant to help make it seem a little less empty. I'm pretty sure I want to add a few more java ferns behind the wood. Any ideas on what plants I should add? Or rock fragments? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks!

I would recommend getting a background If you want it to look natural, maybe black or blue. A clump of java ferns in the corner would look really cool. For stem plants, there are tons of options. If you want it really bushy, you can go for pearl weed. It grows really fast and you will be able to trim and plant it throughout your tank quickly. Also, make sure to add some foreground plants, like maybe some crypts or something. I also think some hydrocotle japan or something would look really nice if you grew a big clump in the corner or something. There are really tons of options. Maybe even throw in some floaters.

what do you think it would look like if i added some pearl weed in the foreground in the left corner, then let it grow a bit taller near the heater? I’ll also add some hydrocotle on the right of the foreground rock as a sort of carpeting?

Pearl weed isn't really a foreground plant... You could sorta trim it that way if you want to, but it also would look really nice if you just grew a massive bunch in the back. If you want the hydrocotle to carpet, you will need to promote the growth by pushing it down. If you can get it to carpet, that would look really cool...

Hmmm, I guess I’ll need to do a but more research on carpeting plants

I think the wood and dragon stone is a good combo, but I also think you could add on to it by getting a bunch more dragon stone and sort of pile it to look like a mountain. The wood you could also sort of pile to make look like roots reaching out to the mountain. I was just reading some other aquascaping threads on FishLore and JLAquatics mentioned how the hardscape is just the skeleton of the scape. I think Bucephalandra would look good with the wood and stone. I actually just finished an epiphyte-only tank and I love it. Maybe you could do something like that? For the substrate, if you want, you could use something like dwarf baby tears or Monte Carlos. Hope this helps!

Hmmmm, I’m not sure if i can add more okho stone, but i might be able to do stone fragments. Thanks for the suggestions!
