Aquarium Stand, And On To The Next Project.

HI Everyone,
Just finished building my 29 gallon aquarium stand. It is the first time I have ever done this, so it took awhile. First I watched youtube vids on building aquarium stands, built the 2 x 4 frame, then stood in Lowes for three hours working out what I wanted to do next. I built an extended shelve on the right side for setting fish food, etc. I will also have a shelve inside, but haven't done that just yet.

I build my own lights, and I am going to do a little boy fishing theme on top of the light, haven't started that yet.

Also I am toying with something completely different for decorations in the aquarium, thinking about finding different interesting cups, cutting doors in them for my fish.

Thanks everyone...

If you look at the third picture you can see the white calk that I used to seal it off so water doesn't get underneath the trim.

Sweet!!!!

An aquarium stand build is in my near future. I expect it to be as functional as yours BUT not as clean looking.

Plan on posting the project.

First one I ever build and I wasted some materiel. If I build anther one I will spend money on a miter power saw, so I can do a better job of cutting square ends on 2by4's and cut the trim in the proper corner style.

The tank is a 90, just under 24” high. So I was thinking the top between 36-40”? Want it high enough to be almost eye level but really don’t want to use a stool to reach the bottom with my hand. Elevated Platform on the side where I can put a bucket for siphoning water back in during water changes so it will be 18-24” longer than the tank (which is 48”).

Just interior stained plywood for siding but I was thinking of using 2x6s instead of 2x4s due to the 1000 lb weight of the tank. But if I could find some cool unfinished cabinet doors like you have, I could stain them to match the plywood.

I’m pretty handy with a square, straight edge, saw but finishing the corners cleanly will be a challenge so I might invest in a miter saw, or do it 4-5 times to get it right.

You’v Got me stoked to begin mine.

Thanks

Lol you must watch the same YouTube channels as my husband, ours looks very similar. This is the stand he made (obviously needs to be painted/stained someday but I am impatient). I didn't think I cared about the shelves, but he put them in anyway and I love them.

Looks Great, you did a really good job on the trim corners, that is where I failed so I did an over lapping thing.
I put 3/4" marine plywood for the top and the put paneling over that and over my 2by4's and I already had the doors from an old entertainment system that I had taken apart along time ago...
A good thing about building your own over buying one, is that you know what you have and it will be very sturdy.

Already learned a lot on Utube. Easier than I was going to make it.

Thanks for inspiring me.
