Aquarium Salt for treating rot fin in Guppies.

Just like the title says one of my guppies has ragged fin and this morning had a red dot in his tail once I did a 40% water change it disappeared but I have another guppy that seems a little sluggish and has a dark spot in his tail where tissue is missing(like someone grabbed a lighter and burned his tail) I'm still doing recent water changes since yesterday(I did 20% and today 40%)I plan to do this for a few days but I wanna help the situation by adding aquarium salt since I heard it can be used to combat diseases plus guppies can live in brackish water however I have a 10 gallon tank and the instructions say 1 tbsp per 5 gallon but I plan to add less than that like 1 teaspoon. I need advice before adding the salt

Forgot to mention I also have cherry shrimp, flame and java moss in the tank which is why I don't want to add too much salt.

Remove the plants and put them in a container of tank water near a window and they'll do find while treating.

Adding aquarium salt will not cause brackish water. Marine salt has a much different composition.

Regardless 1 tsp per 5 gallons is fine with the plants removed.

Ok just removed both plants luckily they were not properly attached to the cholla wood and I removed them with ease I will proceed with adding 1 teaspoon of aquarium salt to my 10 gallon but I gotta ask when will it be safe to add my plants back in?

After the symptoms disappear and you've done roughly 75 percent water change using fresh water to replace the salted water.

Hi, are you cycling this tank? What are your ammonia, nitrites and ph in this tank?

What you describe actually sounds like healing ammonia burns (the burnt tip look). Can you post a pic?

Also, if you want to use salt to help heal I would go with .1% (1 tsp per gallon), so in a 10 gallon tank I'd probably use 8tsp mixed with some removed tank water until dissolved. Also, make sure it is salt with no additives, just salt. My plants have never had an issue with .1% but do tend to with higher amounts.

You won't want to add salt though if you have ammonia in your tank which is why we need to know.
