Should I keep the aquarium light on if my pregnant guppy acts skittish when I turn it on?
She's not a new fish. I've had her for over a month. Lol she just recently started to get jittery when I turned the light on. The light is scheduled though. But recently I just keep it off because when I went to turn it on, she would go crazy. And I just thought it was a sign that she was closer to birth, and I read that they prefer dark. So I would just keep it off.I wouldn't worry about it if it's a new fish it will adjust. Just try to have your lighting in some kind of schedule (you don't want the light on all night it will stress out the fish).

Thank you! I think it was because she was pregnant. Because this last night/this morning ahe dropped and I went to go turn the light on and she acted normal.I've had a similar problem with a male platy in the past in the sense that he would get hyper sometimes because the light turning on spooked him. Solution: I bought a cheap plastic plant with tons of leaves and cut them all off! Now they act as some great fake floating plants and it provides plenty of shade over the tank if there is enough leaves. I find that they just kink of settle in the corners of the tank and my fish adore them. The platy hangs out underneath the shade all day and it doesn't freak him out when the light turns on. Has to be plastic though, silk sinks eventually.
