Aquarium Height Vs Length

I have a old probably DIY second hand 90 gallon aquarium that is 48 inches wide, 24 inches long and 18 inches tall. I am thinking about buying a new 90 gallon with the proper standard dimensions (18 inches wide and 24 inches tall). Should I get the new 90 gallon that is taller or just re-silicone the old one and spend the rest of the money on making a larger filter?

Oh, and do you have any tips on cleaning and old aquarium (it has some dried algae (from when I bought it) and some lizard poop because I kept my lizards in there before I moved them to another tank)?
And, do aquariums need a trim, or can I just remove it because the one on the old 90 gallon (If I decide to use it) is very uneven and is very narrow.

On a tank that size I wouldn't reseal it as I'd rather get new & know it was safe

Resilicone the old one rather than spending money buying a tank with a worse shape. Footprint is always better than height.

I wouldn't remove the trim if you do decide to keep the old one.

My tank is a 230l I brought it probably triple hand haha! I brought it with an ever so slight leak up the side! I went out got some 100% silicone from b&q and a glass scraper!
I scraped the silicone off level with the glass sos to only take off the "bead" not the actual "seal" I resiliconed it the same day and it is like brand spanking new! It took longer to cut the old stuff out than it did too reseal! Glass scraper, mastic gun, and a damp finger, £7 and jobs done!

If you don't have experience/don't want to reseal it yourself, there might be people (very experienced people) who can do it for you for cheaper than buying a new tank.

I would stick to the old one. With more sq inches you can create better depth appearance in your aqua scape.
