Trippinbugs

So I need to move my stock (2 male guppies, handful-maybe 6 fry, and 2 Amano shrimp) into my hospital tank so I can do some maintenance. Basically, I need to do some plant trimming and a real good gravel vacuum, so I'm moving my guys so they aren't stressed too much, and I don't have to rush thru it. I have a 5 gallon plastic tank.....one of those like the "critter keepers" but mine is for fish. I'm wondering if it's safe to use a small heater in it, as my main tank is heated around 78 degrees. I'm in upstate NY, and the ambient room temp stays stable around 73-74 degrees. But with it being cold out, and the risk of temps stressing them, I want to use a heater I have. Is it safe to use on these plastic tanks? Its not as flimsy of a tank as I've seen before, and I've been impressed with its use in the past, I've just never used a heater with it. I plan to use a Hydor 25watt that is adjustable to the degree.
Just in case you are wondering, I have been running a small hob filter from my main tank for about 3 days, with a bag of pre-seeded media. I keep an extra bag of media hanging in my tank for times like this. So I know the hospital tank will be alright. I filled the qt tank 1/3 with treated water last night, and let it sit. Today, I will be doing a water change in my main tank, so I will filter the water I drain from the main, and use it to fill the qt up. With that, I should be good for the day.
Just curious is anyone has used a heater in a plastic tank before, and if they were successful? Obviously I have to get it in there and running first before I add the fish, so maybe I just go low and slow and watch with a careful eye??
Thanks!!
