Aquarium Fish by Dick Mills

As is usual with aquarium books this one has a mixture of freshwater and saltwater fish with pictures. It has an encyclopedic approach highlighting the characteristics and distinguishing markings of each fish along with a map showing the ranges of each fish. There is a history of fish keeping in the front of the book.
Price: I paid $10 at the Mackays used book store. It was originally $20
Pros: I really liked the legends under each picture telling what kind of tank they needed to be put in ie. community, species. whether they were shy or aggressive, what levels they swim at, foods what size they get and their scientific name.
I also like that the book is divided up into four parts. Tropical freshwater fishes, Coldwater freshwater fishes, Tropical marine fishes and Coldwater marine fishes. I didn't realize there were so many of each.
It's a nice handy size to carry to the fish store with me(yes I really do that)
Cons: I really haven't found too many cons The one thing I wish it had was a Celsius/Fahrenheit calculator( I know I should be able to do this in my head). liter/gallon calculator. centimeter/inches calculator.
I have so many fish and plant books I'm constantly going from one to the other trying to find something. Except for some specialty fish just about everythings here right to hand.

That is a great book.
The way to convert from F to C is with this formula:
F=(1.8*C)+32 or to find C with only F,
C=(F-32)/1.8

Thanks Tom. I know the formulas I just have a hard time doing it quick and when I need it which is usually late at night or early in the morn.

I am happy I'm getting 3 more fish books from my parents for my birthday. There is one straight fish book and 2 plant books. They all are for FW.

Wahoo!! great presents! At least they know what you want I've been watching a plant book by Hiscock at Books-a Million that I want but it just keeps going up in price. So now I'm watching for it at the used book store. I may have to break down and buy it.

Try some of those online stores. That's where I'm getting mine from.

yes I love those online stores but we have such a good, large used book store. If I'm careful I can usually get two for what I would pay new and shipping.
