aquaclear question

Yesterday I went to a second hand store looking for a movie for someone. instead of coming out with the movie, I came out with a aquaclear filter, 100w heater and an air pump. all of it for $7 bucks. I asked they said the filter works. they plugged it for a second and it hummed.

it is missing the lid and a piece of the intake tube. it has the piece where it goes onto the propeller.

I don't know what size or model it is. the motor says, model A-6..RN any ideas which it is?

what kind of media do I use? it has a new sponge thing and 2 bags of little tiny rock things.

where can I get replacement parts?

is the heater good? it is an all glass aquarium hydor heater.

any info about the aquaclear would be helpful.

aquaclear is actually my favorite brand of filter most pet stores can get in the parts for it. The intake tubing is generally carried in stock at most stores but the lid you will probably have to order. Ideally you want the sponge for that size filter, carbon (if you use carbon, I do) and then the biomax which holds most of your bacteria. Even tho it says to change the biomax every 3 months and the sponge every two you really don't ever need to change either of those. Just change the carbon monthly. Its a super nice filter tho. You may have to take off the motor and clean out the impeller but they are great filters. You have to dump water into the filter to get it started most of the time.

It sounds like you got a pretty good deal! I don't know anything about the heater but I know a little about the filter. I can't figure out which model you have but as soon as you figure that out you can order parts from Hagen. You can get everything that you are missing. Also aquaclear filters have 3 stages of media. The sponge, activated carbon, and the little beads. The sponge goes on bottom, then the carbon, and the beads go on top.

Hopefully someone can help you id your filter!

Edit: ewatson beat me to most of the info lol. But I just went to Hagen's website and it looks like model A-600 is an Aquaclear 30, A-610 is an Aquaclear 50, A-615 is an Aquaclear 70, and A-620 is an Aquaclear 110.

I know kensfish.com carries a ton of parts for these at a fairly good price. Just as an FYI.

thanks everyone. today I was lokking and thought is was a 30. it doesn't have the zeros on the motor though. but anyway.

the heater works from what I know. I set up a 10 gal for tomorrow. I plan on going to petsmart tomorrow since they are having sales. 5 for $4 bucks. select danios, guppies, tetras, platys and some other ones.

there ya go! I wish I had some space for them.

I would say that you should get the filter up and cycled before adding fish thou.

I have lots of extra media from my other tropical tanks.so no worry. I actually had a filter on my 29 I put on it.

I got 12 neon tetras and 2 guppies. I sort of wanted the get more cherry barbs, but the ones from my lfs are really good quality.
