Aquaclear Hob Filter Very Loud

Hello all,

I recently purchased a 60 Gallon Aquarium with a used Aquaclear 110 HOB filter.

I've set up the aquarium, filled it up with water to begin its cycle however, the filter is making an incredibly loud vibration like sound. It isn't leaned against a wall and I looked up possible solutions to solve this issue and found a trick using Vaseline 100% petroleum oil to lubricate the impeller shaft. I've tried that trick and found no success. The shaft is not too worn out either.

Is anyone able to help me?

Have you tried grabbing/holding it while it is running? Possibly rattling against the top frame of your tank? Internal vibration or external?

Yeah holding/grabbing it doesn't reduce the noise at all. It definitely sounds like it is coming from the motor.

I’ve heard that sometimes in aqua clears the media basket will raise slightly ( this is a design the company chose to already you that your media needs to be rinsed), causing the top to rattle during operation. My suggestion either remove the lid or put a elastic band around the filter to hold the lid in place

Is that was does that?!?! I didn't know it meant the media needed to be rinsed. That's awesome!

To OP, if you move the intake tube left and right (increasing and decreasing flow), does it change the sound? Sometimes I have to wiggle mine to get a slight noise/vibration (sounds like grinding) to stop.

Is the rubber bushing still in place on the shaft at the bottom
