I just built a stand 38 X 15 for my 10 gallon quarantine tank which will sit on the bottom shelf in a 21" opening. On top I like to get a 40 tall which would fit there perfectly but they are hard to find, so I might have to settle for 29. Would a Aquaclear 70 create to much turbulance or should I go with a Aquaclear 50?

AC 50 won't be enough, I suggest the AC 70.

I think it depends on the type of fish you plan to keep. Some fish appreciate high flow, others don't. I know a lot of people here advocate high flow rates but sometimes you need more nuanced answers. Knowing what type of fish you plan to keep would help us help you. Also, check out the new Seachem Tidal filter... Has a surface skimmer. Very cool feature.
