Aqua Clear 10 For 5.5 Betta Tank?

Hi, I recently got a 5.5 tank for my male halfmoon platkat. It was the top fin kit and it has been great, except the filter is far too strong for the poor little guy and I have to leave it off. That mean I have to change a lot more water, clean the decor once in a while and stirr up the gravel a little before I manualy scoop out the water with a cup. I was wondering if I could get an aquaclear 10 for the tank? Also once I get a good filter, can I get a snail for the tank? And if so which tipe? Thanks in advance!

Oh and, three more things
1. YazI (the betta) has giant genes in him (dont know if that does anything)
2. He is not a very good swimmer
3. Are the aquaclears quiet because I have this tank right beside my bed

I would try the Tetra 26316 Whisper Filter PF10, which is an internal filter and shouldn't effect your betta or maybe try a sponge filter. At the minute I have a biocompact 50 on the lowest setting. I would recommend getting a filter asap. You can get a snail for the tank as I've never seen any betta eat them but I would probably recommend a entire snail because they are great at cleaning algae and don't reproduce. I also love your betta, he is so pretty!

I have one like the filter in the picture on another tank. Its ok, but u guess the brand is just crappy, needs a extensive clean at least once a week. I might try the tetra one like you said, although my lfs doesn't have much in the filter section

Aquaclears are very quiet..I rarely hear even my aqua clear 50. its true, they do need cleaning, but they are also easy to clean so it's not so bad. If the impeller rattles, you take it out and wipe the gunk with a Qtip or rag. When you change water, simply squeeze the sponge in your dirty water bucket...easy maintenence.

The Tetra suggested is also a good filter, but I didn't like the hum of the air pump. You can offset that a bit by placing the pump on a rubber mat(like a mousepad) or a folded washcloth. wee ran that one in the ten gallon tank we had for my son, when his neons were so tiny they got sucked into the filter that came in his startup kit
