Aponogeton Nursery Corner

My aponogetons have both been producing babies but they never broke off from the parent plant and were beginning to take over the top of my tanks

So, today during cleaning, I planted all the babies that had roots in a calm corner of my tank.

Hopefully some of them thrive.

I didn't think aponogetons produced baby plants......are you sure that's what you have? I thought they only produced flowers/seeds. The ones I have had do anyway.....

They were labeled aponogeton when I bought them but not which type. So, when I researched them, I found out the aponogeton undulatus doesn't flower, it creates a flower stalk and then grows new plants off of it until they form tubers which you can remove and grow new plants from.

So, I figured I really lucked out in the type I got.

WOW! I hadn't heard of that kind before. I just googled it and you are right. I stand corrected. I have had 4 different aponogeton species and all of them produced runners with a flower that produces seeds. I wanted to propagate them SO bad, but I could just never figure it out with the seeds. And I think it is a VERY long process with the seeds anyway.

Congrats on the find. I read that they are pretty rare! But now I want to find one!

I'm hoping to sell a few if the babies do well.
