Apistogramma with discus?

johnmaddox

Hey y’all, so I recently started up a discus tank and all is doing well. I was wondering if I would be able to add a pair of Apisto’s not sure on which type exactly yet, just wanna know if anyone has experience doing this before. There are a few hiding spots throughout the tank and it’s currently moderately planted, thinking about adding in some more. Thank you!

With Discus probably best go for blackwater species of Apistos. But that can't be decided yet.

What are your parameters? (pH, GH, KH, TDS, Temp)
Got a picture of the tank?
What is the tanks footprint (length x depth. Hight is irrelevant.)

Numbers and ratio of sexes depend very much on the size and how you structured the bottom area.

Surprisingly, I've never seen or heard of mixing Apistos w/ Discus.
The usual suggested tankmate is
German Blue Rams.

Funnily enough Apistos are biotope accurate, while Rams don't occur in the same biotope as Discus. The suggestion is due to temperature and the fact that rams also prefer soft water, while many commonly available Apistos (A. cacatuoides, A. macmasteri, A. borelli) require a bit too hard and too cool water. That's all.
Many fish of the A. agassizii and A. regani groups occur together with Discus in the wild, as do some Dicrossus.
