Api Master Test Kit

We are cycling our 3rd tank now. I am checking the values about every other day or so. Our kit is about a year old now.

Is it me? Or does everyone else have bottles almost full or half or so and others that seem to be about empty after testing for several months may be a year......

I follow instructions. I don't waste. I put lids back on securely.

Why such unequalled amounts in the bottles?

My guess evaporation????? A nifty way for ApI to sell another kit? Lol


Any ideas or theories are welcome....

Each test liquid uses different amounts of drops compared to others.

I don't think your on your own there we all I think have this same thing crop up, I've not checked but I don't think all the bottles do the same amount tests and this may be a factor

Ammonia uses same number of drops..... Both bottles in theory should be at the same level......

Nitrates use same number of drops if I am not mistaken...... But bottle 2 is about empty compared to bottle 1.


I suppose I am just ranting.....

I might be more concerned if I thought my reagents were not correct strength that my test might not even be close to accurate ?
I am not a big tester though but own API .

ammonia is 8 drops, use 2.5mL in the test tube and use 4 drops instead. Bottle 2 should go empty just before bottle 1, since the drops are a bit bigger. That's what happened with my 1st test kit.

nitrite is 5 drops, you can use the full 5mL.

nitrate is 10 drops, use 2.5 mL and 5 drops.

you can eyeball the 2.5mL or use a small syringe.
