API Liquid Test Kit

So I have been noticing with my API Liquid Test Kit that while shaking the vials (mostly the nitrates but sometimes the ammonia and nitrite) some liquid will leak out. Is this normal or do I need new vials? Will this effect the test results? I would assume if some leaked out that it would be the same ratio as what's in the vial so I think the difference would be negligible. Its not a lot of fluid but a decent amount I'm looking at my Nitrite test right now and it is below the 5 mL line by about as much as it would be above before shaking.

EDIT: And before you ask, yes the cap is on all the way and I even use one finger to hold it on tight while shaking.

I think this is somewhat normal and nothing to worry about. It is because the cap doesn't make a super air tight seal. I find it helps to press very firmly with my thumb on top of the cap while I shake. I know you said you do put your finger on it, but be sure to press down hard while shaking, and this seems to eliminate it mostly, but not all the way.

Yeah it's pretty common.

To prevent any of that liquid from going everywhere, just put a tissue over the vial's cap when you shake it.

Thank you. Good news, both of my tanks are fully cycled now. 0 Ammonia and 0 Nitrite and both 10-20 Nitrate. I'm as happy as a puppy getting treats LOL!
