Api Betta Fix?

My betta boy has got fin rot and I have been treating it with daily water changes and cattapa leaves.

It has gotten better and his bottom fin is almost completely healed.

But it back and dorsal fins are still quite rough. They have no red spots or white fuzzy spots anymore, but they have brown spots and haven't really gotten better they are more at a stand still.

I know with more time he will probably heal but my problem is that I am going away with my family for a week in August. I really don't know how he will be by then, but the only person that can watch my fish can't do daily water changes. Plus I use RO water and a remineralizer and it can be difficult to calculate how much to use.

I just bought a used 3.5g betta thank to use as an emergency tank, and it came with a bunch of old chemicals that I tossed but it came with a brand new barely used apI betta fix.

It got me thinking that maybe I could use it to kill the bacteria and then do daily water changes to heal his fins and then he would be ok by August. I do have a snail in his tank but it says it's all natural so idk if It will hurt him.

My plan is to take out my charcoal cartridge and when I do a 25% water Change add it. Do that for a week then put the cartridge back in and do water changes till his fins grow back. He is in a 10 gallon so 25% is 2.5g and it says to use 2.5 ml for every US gallon so 3.75ml for a 25% water change.

Will this method work? Will it effect my snail? Is it even worth me doing this?

Thanks in advance

Betta Fix doesn’t help and makes it hard for bettas to breathe. Clean water is best.

Really?? I had no idea it's a good thing I asked then. The people that had the rank before had a betta in it for a year said they used a quarter of the dose at every water change because the pet store owner said it was good for them. But they had a charcoal filter so I imagine it did nothing.

Thanks!

Do you think in 2 months that he will be able to go 5 or 6 days without a water change? Do you think he could heal enough in That time?

Sorry about your poor betta. I agree with @ammysjj that it will make it hard for him to breathe. Do clean water and cattapa leaves and that should do it. I would not worry about august he should heal by then. If you do decide do put chemicals in the water definitely take the snail out. The product may say it safe and all natural but in most cases it can harm invertebrates. The betta fix may or may not help so it could end up being a waste of time.

He should have healed by then and he will do fine without a water change just make sure that the day before you leave do a %50 water change.

OK thanks! I don't really want to use chemicals but It got me thinking so I thought I would ask. I don't want to use anything that will make it hard for him to breath. He is in such good spirits considering so I don't want to ruin that.

I was planning on it and it is a planted tank so my nitrate is never very high.

Yep, BettaFix is just watered down MelaFix, which is harmful too.
Yes, I only do water changes once a week.

I can't believe that the pet store owner told them to use that.... I don't know what per store it was but I usually don't believe anything they say without checking it myself. Ok thanks
