I'm setting up a killifish display tank and planning to stock with 2 males and 3 females...
1 male and 2 female Aphyosemion australe
1 male and 1 female GardnerI

Is this a good idea? I cannot easily get just one species due to the limited supply where I live.
The tank is about 8 gallons and has been cycled and is densely planted. (Many hiding spots!) I'm only keeping this size tank for a year before upgrading them to a bigger setup.

I would very much appreciate your opinions!

No, the gardnerI is too aggressive for the australe, and will quickly grow much larger. At the very least, it would keep the australe cowering in hiding, and hog most of the food. My personal preference would also be to keep australe in softer water, while the gardnerI is very adaptable and will do well in moderately hard conditions.
