Anyone With Experience With Bettas And Neon Tetras Together?

I have a new Betta tank. It's alone, but when I was a child I had one housed with several neons. The betta within days plucked and ate their eyes, leaving the rest of them. I wonder what happened with them.

I know that they likely didn't have a very large home, or enough tetras for a school because I was young and my mom didn't have the knowledge.

Bonus question, what are your bettas' favorite things in their tanks?

I’ve had them together for about a year and they are fine together but I think that it really depends on your betta

It may have been a particularly aggressive betta. Is there a way to tell how aggressive they are without injuries?

I put my betta in a clear glass or cup and place it in the water if he flares a lot a lot and seems to be lashing out and trying to pick fights then he’s probably not a good fit

Ah, thanks. I have an already established aquarium and I could try that with them. I wouldn't ever put him in with them though.

Put him in for a minute or so and he completely ignored the other fish. No flares I think I would just add some ghost shrimp or something, don't need to risk any fish's lives.

I think it depends on the betta, I have two male. One is alone and the other one is with 7 ember tetras. The one alone ive tried to put him with many different fish but that little guy is super aggressive! he flares at his shadow. The other one is such a nice fish that I tried to breed him once and a small female beat him up.

That all depends on the betta.

Neons need 68-75f while bettas need 78-82f so even if they get along they shouldn't be housed together.

I looked into it and it looks like they're fine at 78, where do you know that temperature from? Not saying that you're wrong, just want to get it right.

EDIT: Nevermind! I saw that just because they can stand the higher temperature, doesn't mean that they're comfortable with it.
Are ember tetras more in the right range?

Aww! That poor betta. I think mine is somewhat mild tempered, hates guppies (and my fingers..) but doesn't care about my glofish tetras.
