Anyone Who Knows About Ferrets

I just ordered my guy a new, bigger cage and it has a wire bottom overtop of a pull out bin so when he goes to the bathroom he won't lay in it. Well I also know cat liter is a no no for ferrets due to the dust can cause respiratory infections but if he isn't able to dig in it, there really won't be any dust right? Can I use cat liter under the wires to make scooping out his feces easier and also to help with stinky ferret smell? Thanks

Use recycled paper that’s sold as cat litter. Unscented, virtually dust free, and 100% recycled newspaper. That's what I use For Guinea Pig bedding, it’s cheap too.

That's what I use in his liter box but he is refusing to be potty trained Haha. Any suggestions to cut down on the smell if cat litter is a no no? I clean his cage 2x a day but it is still pretty smelly
