Never used that one before but I have used a product called Prime it does the same thing. With Prime it detoxes the water but if you tested it, it would still show a reading. It just binds the chemicals together and then your filter pulls them out of the water.

We used it right before we switched to Pro-Carb Z (activated carbon and Zeolite ammonia-removing crystals), and have no complaints.

I have .25ppm ammonia in a 10 Gal. I am starting up daily water changes, I use Prime in a water change tank, should I add Ammo Lock after the change? Will Ammo Lock just detoxify ammonia or get rid of them?

I have no experience with Ammo Lock. But Prime neutralizes up to 1 ppm of ammonia, so why not just use that?

Ok, I was just in search of something that could eliminate it along with daily water changes.

ammo lock just encloses the ammonia in such a way that it is not harmful for the fishes till it is broken down by the bb.
I still think prime is better.

Prime and AmoLock do the same thing. Pick one product and continue to use that (most use Prime).

People tend to use Ammo Lock as a bandaid. If you use Prime, keep a healthy stock level in your tank and do proper tank maintenance, you'll never need Ammo Lock.

AmmoLock used to remove ammonia, but apparently a couple of years ago they reformulated it and it now detox ammonia just like Prime does. (Although I'm not sure that it detoxes nitrites, whereas Prime does that also).

But really you do not want an ammonia remover. Since ammonia is the food source for the bacteria, removing the ammonia will starve out the bacteria and the tank will never cycle. A product that detoxes ammonia is much better since it leaves the ammonia in a state that is not harmful to fish, but still a food source for the bacteria, allowing the bacteria to grow and your tank to cycle.

I am in the process of daily water changes and adding prime due to an extremely high ammonia level. I was wondering if API Ammo lock will help the fish and lower their stress level

Thx,

API Ammo Lock doesn't really do much. Really only detoxifys the ammonia but does not get rid of it. Also ammo Lock had been said by other people that it can actually mess up your biological filtration. As far as getting rid of you ammonia you can do 50% water changes every few days and add Beneficial Bacteria supplements. Another good ammonia and Nitrite detoxifying solution is API Quick Start. If you need help in the process of getting rid of you ammonia then let me know.

I would use seachem prime. It detoxifys ammonia is but it still is there for the bacteria to eat and continue your cycle

Yeah prime would probably work better

API actually provides evidence that Ammo Lock works which is more than I can say about any other ammonia detoxification product (other than clinoptilolite).

But doesn't Ammo lock bind the ammonia so it is useless to the bacteria?

There's no evidence that it does.
