Anyone Play Board Games?

HI guys/gals.

Was wondering if there were other boardgames freaks on the forum? I personally really like them and I meet friends every 2 weeks at least to play some. We like poker (not strictly a board game but hey), Catan, Trivial Pursuit (white and nerdy!) and Carcassonne mainly. Oh, and Going for Gold.

What games are you into? (not online, but real board games)

I voted 'Sometimes. It's OK I guess.', but actually it's more like "Sometimes. I really like board games, I just don't happen to play them a whole lot.'

I will destroy you in 'Scrabble'.
I love 'Risk'. World domination. Gotta love it.
'Trivial Pursuit' is pretty fun until you play a game with one of those freaks who have memorized every single card.
'Othello" has always been a favorite. "A minute to learn, A lifetime to master."
I suck bad at Chess. I just can't think that far ahead.

Yeah, it's tough if you like boardgames but none of your mates do, or your partner doesn't. I am really bringing my boyfriend on board now (no pun intended!) and that' I we get to play more.

I totally suck at Risk, but I like it. Same for chess. I suck so much I sometimes nearly beat not-so-totally players just because my weird and useless moves throw them.

I really love trivial pursuit. A couple of my friends and I really love useless facts. One of them studied biochemistry, I studied zoology and the other studied astronomy. We're total reference freaks, the 3 of us. Give me an atlas or a dictionary and we'll be verrrry happy for hours. We'll fill blank world maps for fun. The point is, my boyfriend is not like that at all and he's always making fun of us and ... he always beats us at Trivial Pursuit. There's no justice.

Othello! I used to play that for hours as a kid! Great game.

yea. I love board games, just nobody else in my family does and my friends don't really like them either, so the only chance I really get to play them is with my cousin who I only see for a weekend, maybe 3 times a year.  :-\

I love:

UNO Extreme,
Othello,
scrabble,
and I used to go to chess club when I was in primary, but by now, I've forgotten all my little tricks and special moves that I made up that always worked, but I still know vaguely how to play.
I used to play poker with my friends at school in year 9. We used to bet with pennies and the highest bid was not aloud higher than 10p lol.

I've never played trivial pursuit, but always wanted to. Whats the aI'm of the game?

Gwenz ;D

Oooo, Uno! I love Uno. What's Uno Supreme?

Trivial Pursuit is just a quiz game. You win by answering lots of trivia questions right. Kind of like a pub quiz concept.

Othello: yep, classic!

Scrabble: Am so pathetic at scrabble, and so are all my friends. It always ends up with dumb 3- or 4-letter words like cat, milk, and, lot, car! We took a picture of one of our finished board once because it was so pathetic. Really looked like Homer vs. Bart scrabble!

Poker: you're allowed to play poker! Man, I feel old. I've only learned this year, and am over 30!

I once downloaded this really cool Chess game for the PC that had a tutorial that taught you strategies and good moves. It even told you the best move to make next and WHY it was the best move. I basically downloaded to teach myself how to play Chess. It didn't help. I still suck.

But actually, a lot of video-game versions of board games (cards, chess, scrabble, etc.) go a long way in showing you good strategies and techniques that can be applied in the non-virtual versions as well. Same goes for a lot of sports games. You can actually learn the basics of football by playing Madden much faster than just watching it on TV.

Never played Clue or Life (don't even know if they're 2 different games?)

People hate me when I pay Monopoly, because I'd rather let the game drag on than do a disadvantageous move!

clue is a game where you ask players questions to figure out who killed the murder victI'm in what room with what weapon. Life is a game where you go through 'life', getting married, college, jobs, career, kids, etc.

people hate me when I play monopoly because I am ruthless and enjoy letting an opponent linger a bit just to have more to take when I finally nail them.

Oh, that's funny. We call these Cluedo and Destiny respectively here in Europe.

Oh Monopoly is about ruthlessness. You need to be tough-skinned to play!

lol.. yea, that's what I love about monopoly.. it drives me crazy when 2 players try to 'help' each other.. that's NOT what monopoly is about.. it's about being mean and cut-throat.. like real-life monopolies (cable tv, utilities, etc.)

I figure this is rather a propos.

Anyone here a fan of board games? If so tell me which ones and I'll tell you why you're wrong for liking them. Unless you like the right ones.

Lol...I literally just sat down after playing 2 games with my wife and eldest. Neither is technically a board game because they don't have a board, but we played MachI Koro and Bananagrams.

Favorite board game is Empire Builder.

Bananagrams? Bananagrams? That's the worst fruit-centric game since Apples to Apples. Okay, I've never played the game, but I'm pretty sure you just chuck rotten bananas at eachother. Right?

Is MachI Koro kind of like Catan?

But yes, Empire Builder, resource allocation and crayons, what a wonderful combination.

Card games, board games, throwing condiment packages from overpasses. They're all pretty much the same.

Both these games drive me bananas...grams...bananagrams... Scrabble because the enjoyment of a game is constrained by the quality of your opponents, "oh look, you spelled cat... again", and Risk because when I lose it's too easy for me to blame the dice rolls and flip the board over shouting "You can't conquer all of Asia from Irkutsk, you don't have the rail capacity. Amateurs discuss tactics, professionals discuss logistics. SUPPLY LINES!!!"

Now Diplomacy, that's a tactical war game, and probably the best way yet contrived to lose friends.
Monopoly. You can't tell me I'm wrong for liking Monopoly.

Please, go on, I have literally never heard of any of these except Codenames, because apparently the only way to get a license to operate a coffee shop is to have at least one copy of Codenames. Never played it though.

Chess is the king of board games, la mer bleue (excepting maybe Go, but I'm awful at that so obviously it doesn't count). I just can't find anybody to play with since I reached the level of basic competence in deploying the Sicilian. Let's see you open e4 now.

Simpsons Clue, Simpsons Clue all the way.

Catan! When I can get my family to play with me. And my bestie is always game to play because she’s awesome.

Or Ticket to Ride, that’s usually an easier sell. Sequence is fun, specially for multI generations. And I LOVE Blokus

I use to think poker was driven largely by luck, until I played against people who really knew what they were doing... I no longer play poker.

Lot's of love for Catan, which is fine, if you're eleven. Really nobody plays Advanced Squad Leader, the game that needs a separate manual just to explain the jargon in the actual manual?

Also I actually like Catan... a lot... I've got all the expansions, but this is the internet so I liked it before it was cool.

Codenames is actually a ton of fun, definitely give it a try sometime. Needs at least four people but it’s even more fun with more!

Personally I find One Night Werewolf more fun - all the drama, but doesn’t drag on as much as the original - needs at least 6

Also, Nine Man’s Morris is one of the oldest games in the world - there’s carvings of the board for it on like Egyptian pyramids and temples and on Roman pillars where masons played lol

Suspend is fun, if you’re looking for something more physical (much more fun when drunk btw!

Scan is great (Like 1960s?)

I feel like Rock Paper Scissors is underrated but I don’t think that qualifies as a board game.

Oooo - Carroms is fun too!!

Nertz is a good card game

I play chess like the mad hatter plays chess. I have never once read the rules, and 'winning' and 'loosing' are only real if you let them be. My sister hates it.

Oh, look at this baller, "I have five friends to play board games with, I even play solitaire with multiple people, I must be the quarterhomecomingcheerqueenleaderback of the football te-" SOME OF US AREN'T SO LUCKY!

Seriously though, Nertz, or Pounce as we call it in the civilized world, is for reals. I can't name many other card games with that level of potential for physical injury.

At the moment I play chess like the Mad Hatter's writing desk, nevermore. Wait no, I mean I play cheese like Alison Brie... no I mean I play chest li- nope...no. I hate you wordplay.
