at petsmart all the 20 gallon tank kits are 20 gallons HIGH but include the fliter and lid and everything. Does anyone know where I can get a 20 gallon LONG kit that includes the lid, fliter etc? I prefer the 20 long over the 20 high because of more surface area. I plan on started a freshwater planted tank.

Petco has 20 gal longs for sale, not sure if they come with a kit or not though. I would advocated not getting a kit anyway - most of the equipment isn't very good, and you usually have to replace them anyway. Most of the lighting that comes with kits aren't good for plants either. I would get the tank and equipment separately. Good quality equipment can be cheaper online than in stores.

I think walmart as an aqua culture kit... k can't say anything about quality though, because I have never had it, and I don' know what it comes with.

If you want the space of a 20 long, then you'd be better off just doing that and buying all your equipment separate. Because, like TexasDomer said, the equipment in the kits isn't that great. The filters max output is the tank size it comes with, which is actually nowhere near what filtration rate you will need. The heaters usually go out pretty fast. The lights are basic and not very strong for most plants that people think of in a planted tank. Plus, if you get a 20H while wanting a 20L then you'll never be able to easily stock it with the fish you want. Good luck and happy fish keeping.

I got a 20 gallon tall kit from Petsmart and had to have the heater replaced twice. The 3rd time, I asked if they could replace it with an Aqueon and they agreed. The filter isn't very good either. The hood only had a 2x3" opening so I had to remove the whole hood to do anything in the tank. I replaced it with a glass top but the tank was a weird size and not even the Top Fin glass top would fit. I ended up getting plexiglass custom cut. The light was actually pretty good though. I ended up replacing it after raising some fry in it with a 20 gallon long. The only thing I reused was the Aqueon heater.

I agree with others that you should just buy the parts separately to build your 20 gallon long. Petco has their DPG sale going on until the end of the month. They also have the VersaTop glass tops.

Oh okay! So it’s better to get everything separately I see, thank you!
