Anyone know the tail type?

It was just sold as "Koi Betta." I'm guessing it's a young male VT, but I'd like to see what others think.

 

Could he be a plakat?

 

Maybe? I don't know.

 

His tail seems to have a bit of a shape to it. Is it possible for a Betta to be both a spade tail and a plakat?

 

Could you get him flaring? My guess is a show plakat, but not quite a HMPK.
He is gorgeous!

 

I'll see if I can get him to flare tomorrow. I just shut off the light for tonight.

I did test his temperament in the store and he seems to be a only mildly excited around other fish.

He's a pretty calm fish. I even floated my aggressive hm Midnight in a cup to try to get Speckles to flare, but all he did was swim over, inspect it, then lost interest.
