Anyone Have Experience With Penn Plax Cascade Filters?

Hey everyone, I'm setting up a new 75 gallon aquarium and am thinking of getting a Penn Plax Cascade 1500 canister filter for it. I have experience with Sunsun's canister filters and think highly of them, despite having a few minor criticisms of them. Would you recommend Penn Plax, or do you think I should stick with Sunsun? The Amazon reviews for Penn Plax are quite a bit better than those for Sunsun. Any insight would help, thanks!

Edit: forgot to mention, the Penn Plax is rated at up to 350 gph, while the Sunsun is rated at up to 550 gph.

I'd go with the sunsun because of the higher GPH.

The stated gph of any canister filter is without the media that being said I would go with the one with more gph which as you said is the sunsun I don't have a Penn Plax cascade or a sunsun but I have a Marine land magniflow on my tank which os pretty much the same thing as a sunsun they're made in the same plant in china under the same design only sold by different companies and I haven't had any problems with mine.

I`m setting up a 55/gal and yesterday I received a Cascade 1000 from Amazon. On the box it says 265/GPH that should be more than enough for my tank. I bought it for 2 reasons ,the price was right and the reviews were very good.

With a canister filter you want to get minimum 6x tank filtration rate. Your 265 GPH only gives you 4.8.

From what I have read and what is stated on the box the filter is rated up to 100/gal.In fact when ordering I thought I was doing a little overkill. If this does not do the job I will keep it and use it for a future smaller tank and buy a larger one for the 55. I was unaware of the 6x ratio.

Manufactures tend to under rate their filters. Just keep an eye on your water parameters and you should be fine. Although 6x will be best for canisters, for a HOB filter you want 8x.

I`ve been thinking about this all day so I`m am going to order the 1200.Amazon wants $11.68 to return it,so I`m going to keep the other one for future use.
