I made diner tonight, and while doing up the dishes, my dishwasher bit the dust( it always something). Its not quite 5years old, and has been nothing but problems since we bought it. It is a whirlpool. So it looks like we will have to replace it soon, so does anyone have a brand they love?

I love my counter top dishwasher, but it sounds like you have a built in.

Yeah, I make dinner from scratch everyday, so I need something a bit bigger than a countertop. Thanks though.

I will have to look in to those. Does anyone know if Samsung makes dishwashers? I bought a whirlpool washer and dryer at the same time I got the dishwasher, and the washing machine crapped out after three years, I replaced it with a Samsung washer, and it has been awesome.

You should check out consumer reports. They list brands with model numbers that have been tested and performed the best. Also list the brands repair history.

I second this. I got an online subscription to CR when we bought our house. $26/year is worth it when appliances out!

My dishwasher is a Frigidaire. It's nice, except that over time the motor developed a kind of grinding noise during its cycle. This was replaced for free during the warranty period, but since that's up I've decided it's not bad enough to warrant me paying to replace it again.

Good morning,

Chef belongs to an appliance forum, he has a passion for washing machines and dishwashers just like my passion for fish.

Asko is the only brand of dishwasher he'll allow in his 2 kitchens, inside and outside. We also have Asko washing machines and dryers, inside and outside.

If you can't get an Asko, he recommends a Bosch.

We have an LG. It's a 14 or 16 place size, and is seriously brilliant. It's the second of the same model that we've bought. The first one stayed in our house when we sold it, and loved it so much that we bought another one the same for the new house. It's so quiet and washes well.

Thanks everyone, I just wanted a general idea of what good/ bad experiances people have had since we put in all new appliances in april 2007, when we purchased the house and the washing machine (which I payed $900 for) only lasted 3 years, the dish washer barely made it this far, and I fear my niffty french door fridge may be the next thing to go. This has just been fusterating because we did checkout reviews on the appliances when we purchased them and they were good, unfortunatlly though most of what we got were brand new models and were not on the market long enough for longer term problems to show up.

I have a ge stainless interior as well. I like it and it does a good job. The maytag at my last apt was good as well.

My family owns an appliance sale and repair business. For light duty use, we have found maytags, whirlpools, and kitchenaids to be the longest lasting and best value. For a more demanding application we recommend bosch. And then there's the "commercial grade" brands like subzero, etc.

We may look into GE, but I think we will stay away from Maytag. Maytag is owned by the same parent company as whirlpool. I contacted whirlpool about my washing machine before I replaced it, because it broke 4 times before the warrenty ran out, then once again right after it ran out. IMO a reputable company would have conceided that maybe I had a lemon and offered some sort of help. They just sent me a letter that pretty much said "sucks to be you" but more politely, of course. Also of the applaince we bought the three we have had problems with (washer, diswasher and refridgirator) the washer and diswasher where Whirlpools and the fridge is a Maytag.

Yep, a lot of the companies are related. Wow, seems like you've had your fair share of issues with maytag/whirlpool. These days we do lots of repairs on the higher end commercial appliances. Maytag's quality isn't what it used to be, as with any company cutting corners.

Always buy from a dealer that has their own service department. A dealer's warranty can help a lot, especially when the manufacturer dumps you like that.

We got the appliances at Lowe's. And I guess in all fairness the dryer is a Whirlpool cabrio as well and it has worked fine the whole time, but that's still not great odds for three out of four failing. We got our stove at Lowe's too, it's a frigidaire, no problems and no problems so far with the Samsung washer. We did buy the extended warrenties but they were for 3 or four years( depending on the applaince I think) and when you spend as much as I did on appliances, I think they should be built to last a long time. I should add that none of these issues where regualar maintance issues, the computer board on the washer ( which I was told was a $900, part the price I payed for the whole washer) went out three times in a few years. The problem with the dishwasher is also something with the electronic controls.
