I got my Oranda a few weeks ago and he has a chin bubble. It goes in and out when he breathes and when he eats stones go in it. He manages to get them out though, then new ones just go back in. Also, someone mentioned they’ve removed something similar from fish and could do it but I think I’ll leave it, I don’t want to hurt him, unless someone knows otherwise about it or if it’s harmful long term.

It sounds like a risk to his health, if it becomes impacted it may affect his eating or breathing, and possibly cause infection. Is it on his lip or actually connected to the floor of his mouth?

seems to be connected to floor of his mouth. Sometimes there isn’t anything even in it. Like each day tho it’s a new stone or stones if there is

The chin bubble is a dominant trait that should’ve been culled out. Next time you see a goldfish with a chin bubble, I recommend that you do not get it, as it causes a lot of health issues.
If the stones stay there, it can cause inflammation.
If he doesn’t get it out himself, try to push the chin inwards and get the stones out through the mouth. I would also recommend that you remove all gravel so this doesn’t happen again.

Use a bare bottomed tank... like, NOW... He can easily get impacted with the gravel...

I can change the gravel to something he can’t get stuck but should I just have the guy remove it ? He said he’s done it many times before with different growths in goldfish and was successful.

I can’t imagine it’s that invasive of a surgery. In some of the radio telemetry work I’ve done we would make a small incision, insert radio tag and sew it back up no issue.
