anyone empty everything and re do?

Is it a bad idea to empty the tank entirely get all the old root tabs out of the gravel put everything back and re plant the plants in a different way and fill it back up?
Does anyone else do that?
My tank has been running for 6 months now since I moved ( I didn't start it over I just emptied it as much as I could left the gravel in drove over to the new place and set it right back up).

 

I personally haven't, but there are many threads tracking the progress of those who have.

Your root tabs are probably gone by now though, as according to the packaging, they claim they only last 2-3 months (though I'm guessing it's probably a bit longer than that).

 

Yeah and their all random now I didn't pay attention to that when putting it back up. I was just seeing if I would get an answer like no!! It will destroy your cycle or something haha.
I think it would be fun to do and I want to get a couple more plants but don't know where to put them so that will help.

 

You might cause a mini-cycle but you can minimize that by keeping your substrate in tank water while you replant.

 

I have emptied and redone my tanks many times while upgrading tanks or switching substrate. You can keep decor and media in 5 gallon buckets filled with declorinated water while moving. The key is to keep everything wet. When I upgraded tanks I just moved plants and decor to another tank while switching.

 

Me too, many times w/ many tanks. Never had an issue. As long as the filter is well cycled shouldn't have a problem.

 

If more of my fish die ill be doing that and probably spraying bleach on all surfaces of my tank and doing a bleach dip of my decor...

ill leave my filter alone perhaps drain the water from it and re arrange some media in it but ill keep the bio filter away from the bleach.
