Anyone else dream of neglecting their pets?

Every now and then I will have a dream that involves something like forgetting about a pet. Like for example, I had a dream I had a frog of some sort. His tank was on a shelf and I forgot about it for months. Somehow it was still alive, and I wanted to take care of it, but stuff kept coming up, and I was always afraid I would forget about the poor thing again.

I've also had dreams when I had a bearded dragon (solitary lizards that can potentially destroy other dragons if kept as tank mates) that, upon coming home, I found that my mom had bought several more and put them all in the tank with mine. From there it was a hectic effort to properly house as many of them as possible, and just generally figure out what to do.

So yeah, that sort of uncomfortable type of thing. Anyone else have pet neglect type dreams?

I'll occasionally have these types of dreams, I think that everyone does. Perhaps it means that you really care about your pets so your dream about not taking care of your pets is your fear of pets being neglected.

When my little brother had African Dwarf frogs, I was always the one to do water changes for their tiny one gallon bowl.
I once had a dream that I used the vinegar under the sink to refill their bowl, rather than the aged tap water that was under the sink. >.< I was so freaked out that I ran down to check on them.
Also had a dream that I dropped my lamp in the frog tank, and melted his little legs off, but he was still alive somehow. I was crying in the dream, and my boyfriend was telling me to euthinize him. X.x so horrible.
Why is it the frogs that always give me nightmares?

I have dreamed about going into a room I don't use often to find my lovebirds still alive in there with no food or water for what seemed to me in my dream for months.

Strange thing is I gave up my lovebirds almost 10 years ago... I guess I miss them.

I was headed off to college my first one had died a few months previously and I was not in a position to keep my remaining ones. So I gave them away to a new home. My first one was so awesome she would wake me up for school by biting my toes she was very territorial but would sit on my shoulder to watch what I was doing. Died of egg binding just after my senior year of highschool.

I once had a dream that I found a bag of plecos in my closet. No water, just chillin' in the bag. They were pretty big ones too.

Is that a bag of plecos in your closet or are you just happy to see me?

Okay, just to get back on topic here for a minute. I've never dreamt of neglecting my fish but I've had dreams where I'm franticly trying to help them cuz there's something wrong (like disease) with the aquarium. This dream usually occurs when there IS something wrong with the aquarium and I'm obsessing over it in my waking hours.

Yes. I've had this recurring dream since I was little. It's always different but essentially the same. I always wake up feeling horrible and it lasts a few days. I spoil all of my pets, and I never neglect their needs. I don't know if it actually has anything to do with animals. More to do with general feelings of inadequacy and being overwhelmed. A stress dream, basically.
Mine always have to do with having an absurd number of animals in small boxes and cages, me having forgotten to move them to big enclosures. I've forgotten about some of them altogether, sometimes for several years. They're always still alive, but usually sick and scared. (When I was 11 I dreamed that I was keeping my guinea pig under the backyard deck and a year later I went outside and he was bald and shivering.)
I don't remember what my last one was about. I try to forget them quickly.

When I did rescue in Denver I always got the sick and injured because of the med.background. So I always had dreams about medications being wrong or having forgotten doseage times.

I thought I was the only person to have these kinds of dreams. I never really told anyone about them because I thought they were pretty crazy. Often I would dream that I didn't change my water for months and months, sometimes over a year; and I would discover the fish in dirty, filmy water (for some reason it didn't evaporate...) and they would not be sick- but they would have mutated. I would then frantically change the water to try and make them ok. Very disturbing... There would always be this smell too. Rotten water or something...

I imagine now that I've read all your dreams I'll have the same one again tonight. lol!

I've had a dream where my fire ants got into my roach tank, and somehow my bearded dragon ended up in there too. I was just trying to keep everyone from killing everyone. I also had a dream not long ago that I did a water change without a dechlorinator. I wanted to add some before everything died but stuff kept getting in the way.

I have horrible dreams on a regular basis unfortunately I remember them all and I'm a sleepwalker too.

Back on topic I have had the same reoccurring dream about a hamster in a cage that I forgot about but was too scared to check if it was still alive. I've not kept hamsters for over 20 years and my last one lived a long and happy life

The "forgetting about a pet for a long time and rediscovering it" dream seems surprisingly common here o.0

I have dreams of leaving the dogs or cat outside, one of our horses being stolen, one of our horses having their baby and having complications, horses escaping, I FINALLY stopped having the dreams of tanks leaks or fish jumping out I get those every time I get new fish. And I always have to go check and make sure everyone's ok after I wake up from those lol.
