I like jersey so far. It's not too bad
My entire company is located here
Couple family members
It's very peaceful compare to where I came from

You move to jersey just to order
Why do you hate it?

Well IMO the Pacific northwest is the most beautiful place in the country. There's so much more to do back home and many more interesting places.

In jersey the cost of living is extremely high for no reason. It's dirty and there's a lot of addicts. Everyone seems to be miserable or angry and very rude most of the time. I'm used to living with a bunch of caring sharing hippies.

As far as the hobby, there's not many nice shops, more retail stores, and the small shops there is have few rare or interesting things like livestock, plants, hardscape. Back home there's tons of places with lots of rare things.

It also just looks the same everywhere, city> low income housing> cookie cutter cutouts of suburban consumer America of prebuilt homes, retail chains and fast food.

Would you rather live;

Or here

Dude, if that is your perception of Jersey, you need to get out more. I've lived here almost my entire life, and while I do hate the extremely high cost of living, there are many beautiful areas in this state. Go west or south of the cesspool you posted there and you'll find them.

Lol there's no addicts where I live
That worst is high. You are correct but it's plenty of things to do
The people aren't mean eaither. My neighbors say wave and say hello to me everymorning
I meet cool people when I go out
Some people are so interesting about my dreads
It's like some people have never seen it in person lol
But offcourse the second pic looks good. I rather live there
But the first pic. Where is that

I live in south Jersey, besides gambling and going drinking and going to the overcrowded beaches what is there to do?

I neither gamble nor drink. Sure there are a couple spots to walk around but nothing like back west and for the most part everyone is miserable/angry/rude compared to back west. If you've never been west its hard to understand if this is your perception of nice.

According to the CDC new jersey is one of the highest death rates from opiate overdoses. Any consumer area or city area I've been to I've seen baggies and needles on the ground this includes north and south Jersey.

I mean its just not for me.

I've been to 38 states... There are beautiful areas in most of them and also miserable areas. Atlantic City is notorious for gambling (surprise surprise) and **** addicts. Camden is a high-crime city.

I agree South Jersey seems to have less to do, if you're not into pretty beaches. What do you wish there was to do? Central and North Jersey have lakes, apple orchards, fall leaves, waterfalls, historical sites, pretty downtowns... bike paths, hiking, fishing, boating, antiquing... Sheesh now I sound like a chamber of commerce

If you don't mind sharing, what's the LFS? I'm often passing through central jersey on my way to visit my parents (they retired to South Jersey), I'd love to check it out

Lol, sorry. But for some reason, I've always wanted to live in New Jersey... It seems so pretty and calm compared to Manhattan, where you can't go to a LFS without getting the finger from a driver. Sheesh!

Portland and Seattle are the two best cities I've been to, they're diverse, unique and full of interesting people.

The thing is the nature areas do not compare to back west. The lakes, hiking areas and farmland is nothing like what I'm used to. I lived 15 minutes from portland 1.5 hrs from seattle and and about 2 hours from California. I had the rockies, the Sierra Nevada mtns, tahoe, crater lake, snake river, etc etc. Walking through an ancient redwood forest doesn't compare to smacking mosquitos in the polluted pinelands with smelly cedar water.

The beaches are filthy except for the more diligently cleaned ones outside of tourist areas. That you have to pay to visit. Back home the beaches aren't surrounded by vacation homes for the cast of jersey shore wannabes, they're surrounded by mountains, huge waterfalls, caves with native American paintings, and thousand year old redwoods. You don't have to pay a penny to visit them and if you stumble onto a beach party in a large cave with a bonfire (which is illegal here) you're not greeted with "who the heck are you bro?"

I mean jersey is not the worst place I've been but in general it's just not the place for me. When my contract is up I'm gone.

The first day I moved into my place, which isn't even in a bad neighborhood, someone climbed into my bedroom window at 4am looking for laqueesha. So.... maybe it just rubbed me wrong from the start.

I've been all over the country, visited 49 of the 50 states, lived in 12 of them. Of the contiguous states oregon, Washington, colorado, utah, Wyoming, idaho, northern cali, and montana are probably tied at the top of my list of best places to live.

As far as drug use, never in my lifetime did I ever see someone shooting **** until I moved here and now I've seen several. Its not llike I'm hanging out in slums all day either. So far I've seen it in the parking lot of a grocery store, outside a chuck e cheese, a mall parking lot, and literally driving down the express way I saw a car full of what I thought was 14 year old kids rolling up joints but no they were preparing needles and unless they were on their way to a diabetes convention I'm pretty sure they were using drugs

Born and raised in NJ. I get what you mean by needlessly rude and angry and nothing to do. I didn't notice it until I came back here after 6+ yrs in the military. Now I live in NYC, but at least they have a reason to be angry lol.

Edit: I spent a couple days in Seattle. I can seriously see myself living there someday.

Wow Tiny_Tanganyikans that is insane. I don't blame you for how you feel. Just know it isn't like that everywhere! You might like parts of north jersey better.

However, based on the screenshot of our thread display , it seems NJ is not very inviting LOL.

I hope your contract isn't long, because with that bitter negative attitude you're going to be miserable the entire time you're here You gotta look for the good and unusual in whatever place you land. Nowhere is perfect, you can't just focus on the bad experiences. It sounds like you may be in a bad area which of course doesn't help.

I like NJ. I like North Carolina and Tennessee better, and they are more affordable. But my family and friends are all here, so I stay, and make the best of it. It's not hard, NJ has plenty of beauty and interest if you're willing to get past being hypercritical and seeing everything through the lens of where you'd rather be I hope you're able to find enjoyment and contentment while you're here, and able to get back home to the PNW before too long.

I'm not bitter or negative at all, it's just not for me. I make the best of it, I've explored most of the state and gone to many recommended places and did some wandering on my own. Most places I've been have not been enjoyable. Even if I loved it here I wouldnt stay as I don't like paying double to have half of what I'm used to. Plus since my better half can't stand it either and refuses to raise children in a place like this we will be heading back west.

I don't think I live in a bad area compared to other areas I've seen here, I live in a quiet suburb but 30 mins in every direction is detritus.

Like I said it's not the worst, it's just not for me. I'm perfectly happy but why should I settle with something that isn't enjoyable?

I get making plans to move back West. But what's the point of being unhappy for the time you're here?

On another note... Back on my chamber-of-commerce soapbox... Have you checked out Hacklebarney State Park, particularly in the fall when the cider mill is open? Or Stokes State Park, Vernon, Lake Hopatcong, Clinton, Jockey Hollow and Morristown... Just trying to give you ideas for nice places to visit while you're stuck here

Awesome! Their selection is smaller than Absolutely Fish but they do have a tendency to carry more rare and hard to find fish, the prices are really reasonable and the staff are all knowledgeable.

I lived in Watertown, NY. I swear, the winters there are worse than Alaska. I'd rather take the -50 F cold than the lake effect snow.

There was this one place my parents went to when I was a kid in Bellevile on Washington Ave. It was called something else back in the day but now is called Aquarium Paradise. I haven't been there in years though so I can't vouch for how good it is. Had fond memories though, it was where my love of fish came from. We'd go every week just to look at the tanks.

Born and raised country Jersey girl here. Central Jersey west. It's a beautiful area. Gosh I miss it...and the food! North west (not east!) is gorgeous as well.
Dang @Tiny_Tanganyikans, you need to get out and explore more.
That picture gives Jersey a bad name. It's so stereotypical. That's the far north east part of the state (blech!) Borders NYC I believe.
You posted about the worst picture from the worst area you could find.

Actually it was the first picture of a location when I googled dirty jersey. Since I work In various cities, 2 of which are on the top 13 murder capitals of the country, it was a fitting picture and closely resembles a couple that I've seen.

I've been literally all over the state quite extensively, sure I don't know little tiny apple orchards in random places, but I have experienced quite a lot. Enough to know it's not for me

Aw, well, that's a shame. I feel bad that you haven't found the beautiful side. It's much larger than a tiny apple orchard.
Maybe google beautiful New Jersey rather than dirty jeresy
Some day take a ride from Washington's crossing state park north towards the water gap
