Any Way To Stop Algae

Hi,

I have a 29 gallon bare bottom tank, it has 3 small gold fish, I have 2 aquaclear 70 , about 4 days back, I cleaned my tank, it was having this fishy smell for a long time, since I cleaned it , the smell has gotten stronger ....

The tank already had brown and green algae, the smell is still there and as the tank is near my study table, I feel this smell all the time, is there any chemical or plant I can use to get rid of this ....

So far I have had no suggestions, I use 2 carbon pouches that have controled the smell but still its there ...

Current pic, you can see the algae on the joints of tank, you can click on pic to enlarge as well ...

Kindly guide ...Thanks

Since you fish tank is bare bottom I am not sure if you can't stop algae to grow but only control it with reduce lighting not sure where you tank is placed but direct sunlight, for even part of the day will promote algae growth. Feed less overfeed fish will increases the phosphate levels in the water fortunately, phosphates do not directly harm your fish, even when they're at high levels however algae blooms that result from elevated phosphates can ultimately cause problems. Most important water changes nobody likes that perform regular water changes. Change 10-15% of your aquarium water every week to keep nutrients in the water low.
Try to learn about water that you use. Test your tap water to see if it contains silicates, using filtered water from a RO unit controls the growth of brown algae as this water is free from nitrates and silicates.

I'm curious about your water source and any chemical filtration (carbon is the only one?). There is a water filter called "zero water" that makes water turn fishy smelling when the filter is used up. Just curious if there could be any commonality. I agree about testing the tap water in use.

ZigI Zig - thanks, I do change my water regularly and feed fish only once a day, I also use seachem pristine to consume organic waste, there is no fish poop in my tank ever, I also feed seachem stability regularly , but this new problem came with brown diatom and is getting worse , the smell is so bad that every one coming to my room is complaining about it ....

Just today I changed 50% again and guess what it got worse , so not changing water for a few days ....

Any plant or product you might want to suggest ....

Oh my oh my. I wonder if the tap changed for the worse. Tap can change with various rainfall and exchanges. Have you considered RO? Ammonia in the tap is an alert right off the bat. And worse with every water change? I'm not sure if adding anything to that water would help as much as using a purified water source.

Carbeo - yes carbon is my only chemical filtration , the tap water has .25ppm ammonia and 10 ppm nitrate ...

Active carbon keeps the aquarium water clear, and removes odors that won't stop algae to grow.. you might want to think about upgrade to Canister Filter with more media option some of those Media Baskets will take up to 1lb of Premium Filter Carbon and lb of Ceramic Rings yours is possibly not enough to keep up with load.. this is canister is good option and choice

I am sure water contains silicates as well and that common cause of brown algae..

ZigI Zig - thanks , I actually tried those canister one, sunsun, you can read my other threads and they were not long lasting, in my 2 aquaclear HOB, I have 1 litre of seachem matrix, 2 carbon pouch and 2 sponges, I am sure that is not a small amount of mech, bio and chemical filtration...

Can you suggest any chemical to kill algae or any plants ...

API-ALGAEFIX-Control-Solution will help algae growth and keeps aquarium glass ornaments and plants clean.. If you want to add plats is ok too since you have no substrate I would look for some hardy potted lilies those will look cool and release leafs on water surface gold fish will love them ... any other beginner plants will go well too but gold fish might all ding them out..
