Any tips on how to bring a lost cat back home?

My 10 month old kitten named Oakley went outside and has been missing for a day now. I predict that he’s out looking for a mate as it’s kitten season... Even young neutered cats will take part. I’ve already tried leaving his stinky litter tray and some hoover/vacuum content outside for the day but it hasn’t attracted him back, and these are methods that people have found to work. Does anybody here know ways of getting a cat to come back home?

I hope he’s ok...

Put out some of his dirty litter. Put out some of your dirty clothes. Obviously, food.If he had a favorite bed, set that out. Hopefully he will smell it all and be able to find his way home. You may need to set up a trap because he could be scared and may bolt if you try to get near him.

Also, make sure to put out posters and post on any local “lost pets” Facebook pages.

Good luck. I hate for fur babies to get lost.

There is a website called pawboost that people sign up for email alerts, Post your cat on there and everyone in the area who has notifications will be alerted.

I have a big cat, he runs in & out everyday. Two winters ago he went out, we had a huge storm & he went missing for 5 days! I was frantic, posting on FB, asking neighbors. On the 6th day he was pawing the door handle to come in, dirty & wet, just sitting there looking at me to come inside. I thought he was a goner. So stay hopeful!! Sometimes people near by will mistake a pet for a stray & bring them inside, so checking with neighbors may help!

Thank you so much for the help. It’s not like my Oakley to venture out so far. He acts all tough and scary, but when a car passes by he runs back home!

Yes, I think most of them act tough but are typical 'scardy cats' lol.
I wish you the best! I hope Oakley returns home soon!

I have had it happen a few times where shaking the treat bag several times outside can get them running back if within ear-shot.

I tried this already but he didn’t appear. Whenever he hears the slightest sound of food he drops everything and rushes to the scene. I can try it again but I don’t know where he could be... Tomorrow it’s the weekend so I’ll have plenty of time to take action and bring him home.

My mum opened the door and we heard a very loud “meow! meow!” He’s finally home!

Willow (the other cat) is not happy... she was playful and relaxed while he was gone. :hilarious:

Once again the house is a very noisy place. Whenever he comes back inside he meows for a while. Maybe he’s trying to tell me about his riveting adventures!

Glad to hear your kitty is back home!
I was about to go outside and check my porch. Seems every stray, feral, lost kitty, possum finds my house!!

He ran inside meowing like crazy, fighting the other cat and demanding to sit on me.
