Any tips for treating fin rot?

Any tips for treating fin rot? It’s been progressing really slowly but I’ve had Indian almond leaves in my five gallon tank for almost two weeks now. I do 50% water changes once a week although I might start to do them more frequently. He has had fin rot for a while now and I’m not sure the leaves are helping much. His top fin has a hole in it now. Not sure if this relates but he sleeps a lot more. I’ve only had him for four months and he used to be so active. My other fish recovered from really big missing chunks although his weren't from infection so I didn’t need to do much after the leaves.

I have had great success getting rid of fin rot with just water changes. Usually 4-5 a week at about 25-30% each time. Thats what has worked for me, anyway.

I agree clean water is the best medicine especially since it is not severe right now. I also wanted to add that I had those same cichlid rock caves and they are quite rough and could be causing the tearing. Even after trying to sand them down as much as I could my plakat betta still managed to scrap off a scale so I removed them.

Thank you for telling me! I actually ordered some coconut huts just now.

I am working on a fin issue right now with my betta. I am doing about a 20 percent change daily, and will continue that for a week or so. I am not sure how many gallons you have, but this seems to be working well. That, and the almond leaves ought to do the trick!

I hope your betta gets better!!!!

Aquarium salt has helped my bettas fin rot a lot. You can give them a bath or add it to the tank directly. But remember that salt stays in the water column so the only way to remove it is through water changes.
