Hi, when I bought my first tank it came with loads of free things including "Tetra Aqua Easy Balance". Anyone ever heard of this?

I've had it for nearly a year now but only used  about <1/4 of the bottle. I stopped using it after a few weeks of having the tank but found it again last week and thought i'd ask about it.

It says it's meant to "reduce frequent water changes" and that it "keeps aquarium water fresh for up to 6 months", but I doubt that's true. What do you think?

+ Do you think it's ok to use anyway after 1 year (plus dnt know how long it was in the store for) ?

Thanks

Heya Gwenz.. IMHO, scope out the nearest wastepaper basket and.. GWENZ SHOOTS!!.. SHE SCORES!!.. NOTHING BUT THE BOTTOM OF THE BIN!!.. BEATING THE BUZZER AND WINNING THE GAME!!

Anything that claims to do what that water treatment does, is somewhat suspect from where I sit.. and even though Tetra products are actually supposed to be pretty good, nothing (IMHO) beats the freshly oxygenated water my fish get every time I do a waterchange.

If I'm not mistaken, the easy balance is a water conditioner that treats for chlorine and chloramines, right? If that's correct, it's probably fine to use, but I would still continue with your current routine of maintenance and not fall into any trap thinking you don't have to keep up your water changes.

I know what you mean. I still try my best to do weekly water changes (with all this school work, sometimes its hard, but I get them done ), but just found it in the back of the cupboard and wondered about it.

I don't think I will use it, I had it free with the tank anyway.

Gunnie - It's the Tetra Aqua Safe that is the water conditioner that treats for chlorine and chloramines. This what I use in my 15gal every time I do a water change but I use API Stress Coat in my 7.5gal. The Tetra Easy Balance just says it "Contains Nitrate Reduction Granules".

Those things usually either a) don't work or b) screw up your cycle (= more water changes...).

Imo extra unneeded chemicals are bad.

Hey Gwen,

Yes I have heard of it and use it but I still do weekly water changes. My water quality is A-ok. My fish are all doing fine. I do agree with the other person who advised less chemicals are better. Use what you have to. I used 'Stress Zyme' weekly and add salt to my tank.
Everything has been fine. Good luck!

Thanks.

It has never been harmful when I've used it in the past, but think I will throw it anyway because I've had it for nearly a year and I dnt know how long it was in the store for, it came free with the tank so I think it's just best to throw it.

Thanks anyway.
