Any Native Fish Keepers?

Hello,

I have been in the hobby since I was in my teens, both freshwater tropical and marine. I have recently been gaining interest in starting a native tank, but do not have much knowledge in this area.

I would also like this tank to be planted. Several types of fish have caught my eye such as a tadpole madtom catfish, bluegill, rainbow darter, and crawfish. I just have a few questions about them.

How big a tank would be recommended to keep all these animals? Can these fish and crawfish be kept safely together? Most successful techniques for catching them? What kind of plants are recommended? I would like them to be native as well. Are there any other species I may be interested in?

I am in the early planning stages. After tons of learning and research, I'd like to start catching them in the summer (or attempting to ).

" planted" and " crawfish" do not go well together
I'm speaking from experience.

Haha, well then probably scratch the crawfish idea. I'd rather have plants

Well, fish that travel long distance would be stressed being confined.
As an example I'll mention the trout.
Try and research which fish in your area are available for fishing and which ones in particular like to stay in place if given the right habitat.
Grab your fishing pole, modify your hook so you can slide it out without much injury and go have fun
You might catch dinner on the way.
Make sure to have something like StressGuard by Seachem ready for wound healing.

For little fish you can make a home-made minnow trap.
