I would like a fish that would be suitable for my 55 gallon tank. I would like it to reach at least 4" in length and be an active mid-level swimmer. Any Ideas?

What about some rainbows like the boesman Ive got 4 and they are very active.
nice fish, however, I don't really have room for a school of fish. I am looking for a fish that will thrive with only 1 or 2.

Hazfish,   A fish I would highly suggest are Congo Tetras.   They are mild tempered, but beautiful, long flowing fins, with iridescent colors.  I have 3 , but 2 would be fine.  They get up to 4" and seem to be trouble free.  I didn't see them described on this site, but you can find them other places.

I am about to make room for a school of Arulius Barbs.  I almost forgot about these beautiful barbs.  I had 3 of them for over a year and then traded them in when they outgrew my 29 gallon tank.  I hated having to get rid of them.  I wish I had my 55 gallon back then.  Thanks everyone.
