HI guys,
I'm trying to cycle my tank (fish in) for over a month with tetra safe start. Because my readings are unusual and the tank seems to not cycling, i'd like to know if you have any experience (succesful or not) with this product.
I have 4 neon tetras and 2 cardinals and my readings (from the beginning until now) are :

Ammonia 1 ppm
Nitrites-nitrates zero
Ph 8,2-8,4

It's a popular bacteria in a bottle. It works just like any other. Among the most popular also are Stability and QuickStart.

I'm looking to do what you said me in previous thread with the prime. But I'm a bit worry about the instractions of the company.

I found also this (3d paragraph) : Q & A With Tetra about Tetra SafeStart

Comfusing..

Just buy Stability, Seachem is one of, if not the most reputable water product company on the market. The instructions are very clear and easy.

I dumped the whole bottle in my 10 and I have never had problems. I also added some to my new 40, and no problems.

What steps do you follow? You see any reading of nitrite-nitrate and how many days take for you to make the cycle?

Do you have access to any filter floss or gravel from a cycled tank? I do use the Safe Start with every new tank but I also seed the tanks with floss or gravel from another cycled tank. I can be cycled anywhere from 3 days to 13 days with the seeding. If you use enough material from another tank, you can actually automatically be cycled. I still wait a few days just to test and be sure.

The instructions say for a new tank to dump the whole bottle and 10 ml for every 10 gallons during water changes for “healthy maintainence.” The key is to dump the bottle into the filter box or canister intake. I never do test readings, the fish are happy.

I cycled my 29 with Safe Start and used Stability with my 10 Gallon. In my experience, they both did the same thing with a few difference. To my knowledge, you can't supposed to do water changes when you are using safe start. You are supposed to just throw the whole bottle in the tank and leave it for two weeks. I also know that testing during that time will be wrong.

Stability by Seachem allows you to do water changes, as you add stability every day.

If I had to choose a favorite, i'd pick Stability.

I have 60lt tank and I take a bottle of 50ml. Exactly the amount required. I shake the bottle and add it to the water not directly to the filter.

Are you doing water changes after adding it?

That I did. I add the whole both and leave it for 2 weeks. On 14th day the readings was the same. Then I made a warpter change and add another bottle. Nothing change

No. Here the steps :
1. I fil with water and add prime.
2. After 48 hours I add the whole bottle TTS and after 2 hours I add the teras.
3. I did nothing for 14 days. (Only tests).
4. On 15th day after I test it and see the same readings I made a wc 30% and add another bottle.

Now its over a month. Still the same..

Hmmm I'm not sure then. Give Stability a try. It might work better.

I had success cycling my 20 gallon with TSS+ in December 2016. Are you using TSS or TSS Plus? I believe the "Plus" makes a difference. Do you have ammonia in your tap? Do you think you've done anything to disrupt the cycle? Such as completely replacing filter media, rinsing it in tap water, etc.?

I'm using the simple TTS because here in Europe I can't find the plus. On ebay sellers only from the states.
My tap water is hard (ph8,2) but have zero ammonia.
I'm only thinking that my tank was running for 2 months without nothing on it( ammonia, fishes, waste etc) and maybe this is a reason or bad product. I can't find any other reason really..

* Before adding TTS and fishes the tank was running "alone" for 2 months. I made a 70% water change and start all over again the steps that I mension above (TTS and fishes) without clean the filter.
Is it possible to made a bad biology because of that?
