Any Experience With North American Fishes?

Obviously there's NANFA for this, but NANFA is a quiet forum...anyhow, I am looking for fishes that (A) can tolerate temps down to 50 or lower (for my water garden) and (B) can be kept in a 10 gallon when not in the water garden. Have any thoughts? I have so far come up with the following;
- Elassoma evergladeI and zonatum (pygmy sunfishes...not sure if the others are cold hardy enough)
- Lucania sp (Bluefin/rainwater killifish)
- Leptolucania (Pygmy killifish)
- Heterandria Formosa (Least killifish)
- Jordanella Floridae (American flagfish)
- Enneacanthus sp? (Banded, blackbanded, and bluespotted sunfishes, may be too big)
- Cyprinodon variegatus? (Sheepshead minnow, may be too active)
- Umbra sp? (Mudminnows, may be too big, but VERY cold tolerant)

Anybody have experience with any of these fishes? Any others that I missed? Thanks

Umbra can tolerate cold temps and they don't move much. I would think they would be okay in a 10g, or even better a 20 gallon over winter. However, they seem to like live foods. I only had 1 out of 6 that would eat pellets.

Edit : there's central mud minnows in a pond near my grandmas house that stay year round in the pond. The pond is about 8 feet deep.

I was going to try a homemade food with them...a mixture of gelatin, shrimp, and spirulina powder.

Are they going to be wild caught or tank raised?

unsure. I think captive bred.

That should be easy to get them trained on prepared food. My wild caught ones were extremely picky and I had to wiggle food to trigger their predatory reflex.

My one I got from a bait tank was eating pellets the day I got it.

Zimmerman's fish is where I am buying it from most likely. Have any experience with any other fish on my list?

No. The only small native fish I've kept are emerald and golden shiners, fatheads, brook stickleback, and mud minnows. As far as I can remember at the moment. Ah. Darters. I used to have those, too. Funny little fish.

I’ve kept the Heterandria and Jordanella before, but always indoors in a heated tank. Several Gambusia species should work with your temperature range as well.

Edit: some of the fish offered here fit your range:
