Any experience with gold zebra loach (Botia histrionica) ??

Anyone have experience with gold zebra loach? If so how do yours behave ? I have 3 in one tank and 4 in another (I had 5 but one never grew and eventually died). In both cases I've purchased them fairly young (maybe just under an inch). The 3 in the 29 are currently about an inch (when they get to about 1.5 inch I'll put them in with the other 4 in the 120). The reason for this post is these guys are very active (compared to my clown and zebra loach) and lack total shyness. Unlike the other loaches they have no problem swimming at the top of the tank and eating flakes or 'schooling' with the guppies or whatever they can find swimming. The clowns and zebra almost never come out of hiding 'cept when I feed em bloodworms but the gold zebra have been teaching them how to be a bit bolder. Is this normal difference in behavior between the loaches or just an unusual behavior of the ones I have (when I feed the angels the gold zebra sez food time and come join but the clowns sez intruder time to hide). So far the golds zebra haven't caused any problems (the ones in the 120 started at an inch and are probably just over 2 inches but very narrow - I guess they have another 4 to 8 months to mature so not sure if their behavior will change when they get older - one of the zebra has learned to follow the gold zebra around (i.e, not run and hide) but that one was always a bit different than the other 4 I have....

I don’t have Histrionicas but I do have botia darios. My darios are pretty bold and swim right into the middle of the Tiger barb gang to eat.
So I think some botias are braver than others.
BTW, I love the Histrionicas. They were what I originally wanted. But I got tired of calling the fish store every week to see if they had come in. They got the darios in and they looked good so I bought them instead.

One site describe the darios as semI aggressive - has that been your experience ? I ended up getting the gold zebra at petco - they were in expensive and lively (looked healthy).

Yes, I would call them semi-aggressive. I had to set up a new tank for the golden diamond barbs I had with them as the darios were nipping their tails.
So I now have my 75 g stocked as a semi-aggressive tank-15 tiger barbs and 7 Botia dario. All seems well and I love it.

Ok. So far the gold zebra are high energy but haven't shown any signs of aggression so perhaps that is one difference. They are not adults yet but are approaching full size - I raised them with guppies when they were 1 inch or so and moved them into the loach/angel tank when they were about 2.5 inches but they don't chase the tetra or angels and when the angels eat they come to the top and eat (I feed the angels twice a day flakes and the loaches once a day pellets - the angels will eat pellets and when I finish off the flakes I will feed the angels pellets as it is less messy - the cories (sterbi) will comb the plants at the top of the tank for left over flakes (I have very dense jungle val and the flakes tend to get trap in the leaves).

Original stocking in my 75 was the golden diamond barbs (Puntius semifasciolatus) tiger barbs and the darios.
All was fine for over 6 months than I started noticing frayed tail fins on a couple of the golden diamond barbs. So of course I blamed the tiger barbs. But then I saw a dario nip a tail.
I think the barbs were fine when they were younger and more active. But they got fatter and slower lol! And they seem to sleep on the bottom right in dario territory whereas the tigers sleep in the middle to top.
But that’s ok.I have cherry barbs in quarantine to add in the new 40 with the 5 golden diamond barbs. That will look really nice.
Good luck with your histies!
