Another Rot Case??

I started treating my girl, Opal, for mild rot a week ago, and now my girl, Circe, has what appears to be a more aggressive case. I'm use Paraguard on Opal, but I'm thinking I might use Kanaplex on Circe. Thoughts?

She's lost color on her face in a matter of days, and one of her ventral fins is clamped too, but I think that's from an injury. Appetite normal, and as of two days ago, twitchy swimming. She seems to have lost weight too, even though she's eating normal. I'm really concerned.

She's out of the tank now, as I'm doing a deep clean and overhaul of anything that could tear fins.

Do you cut the dose at all or do the full recommended dose? Or do you mix it with food?

Have you tryed 25% daily water changes?

I usually do water changes every 5 days but I didn't realize she had rot until maybe two days ago. Otherwise I would have done the more frequent changes. Her fins looked much better last week.

What do you mean?

When I bought Kanaplex, the clerk at the store recommended I use less of the meds for treating a betta, but I don't know if that has any merit. I also read that you can mix it with food and feed it to them instead of putting it right in the tank.

Before medicine I suggest performing water changes as fin rot is due to bad water conditions. So 25% daily would be good. Only use medicine as a last resort as most disease's are due to bad water conditions.

I'm a little concerned at the progression though. I've never had a problem with water quality, especially since I swapped to having planted tanks. Is there anything else that could affect water quality that wouldn't register on the test kits?

I don't believe so.There is also the possibility that she could be nipping (or another fish could be) or she could have caught it on something.

She's the only one in the tank, but it could be she hurt herself. Maybe I'll do Paraguard with her too? That seems to be working with my other fish. It's such a hassle to find the right treatment for them. It's like walking on egg shells.

Dose she have any entertainment? If not then she if fin-bitting (betta’s require A LOT of entertainment) if she has entertainment then I would do %40 daily water changes for a week if you see no improvement then start fully dosing kanaplex.

I suggest just 25% as too much might stress you betta. Please start with daily water changes as fin rot is due to bad water conditions and nothing else. Did you shake the bottles first?

I was comparing pictures of her from two weeks ago to now and opted to dose with Kanaplex, though slightly less than the recommended dose. She's lost too much finnage, and I'm concerned the rot's too moderate for water changes to be effective.

Update: She lost more fin tissue yesterday, so I opted to dose her with a Fungus Clear tab last night to use in conjunction with the Kanaplex. This morning, she's lost more tissue. I know its barely been two days, but when should the meds kick in? What else can I do? Please help!

It's not that bad calm down breathe............ okay feel better? Good. Please stop the medications fin rot is caused by bad water conditions and nothing else. To change your water parameters to good ones please do 25% water parameters.

I can try the water changes, but I don't think they'll be effective. I'm not sure what would cause the water quality to be bad enough to cause fin rot when the upkeep's done on it every 4-5 days, and I never leave uneaten food in the tank. The only thing that's changed is we set up another tank about a foot away from hers with a male in it last Wednesday, but it was my understanding that her eyesight wouldn't be good enough to see another betta from that distance. Do you think I should move the male's tank somewhere else?

Maybe you had a spike? I think the male is fine. Could she be catching it on anything in the tank?

I did another revamp of her tank last night. She had an ornament in there that wasn't sharp, but I took it out anyway, and did a 25% water change. Haven't noticed any more fin loss today, so maybe whatever was left of the Fungus Clear and the water change slowed the progression down some. We'll see how she's doing when I get home. I'll do the water changes for the rest of the week, but if it gets worse, I'll drop another Fungus Clear in there.

Update: She's worse and as of yesterday, very listless. She's still eating, but has lost more tissue. Should I continue just doing daily water changes? I feel like they're ineffective.

I moved her into a net breeder with an almond leaf so she doesn't have to swim as high to get air and to make sure she eats. Anything else I can do for her?
