Another Filter

If I go with another filter for my 29 gallon tank down the road when I put on the filter will I go through a mini-cyle?

 

yes it will go through a mini-cycle unless... you put media from the old filter in the new one or run the new filter for awhile before removing the old filter.

Yeah just run them both for about a month then you can feel safe taking the old one out without a minI cycle issue...

Another thought.... You have a power head running in that tank right ?? You could get one of the filter set-ups for your power head and let that run for a while then switch out the HOB filters. I have one of those filters running in my tank and it seems to be working really well as a bio filter.

Just take your time with it and all will be well.. ;D

 

Yes I have the Maxi-jet 400 powerhead in my tank now. It did not come with a filter sponge so I order one and will that all so help with bacteria being on the sponge.

Yes it should... Could take up to a month to get a good colony going though.
