Angelfish pair protecting eggs, male attacks female

I have two angelfish that paired up since they were very young. I've been able to identify one as a female and the other as a male. About two days ago, the female laid eggs and the male fertilized most of them. I moved out all the other fish as it was a community tank and the angelfish have become aggressive. I would see both angelfish chase off the other fish, but now the male is starting to attack the female. I can see the female trying to get close to her eggs and then the male attacks her as if only he owns the eggs. The female just hides somewhere else now. She can't defend herself because the male is larger. Since I've had to move my fish to another tank, I can't just move the female to that tank since it's already overstocked and I don't have anywhere else. What should I do I feel it's wrong to move the female away from her own eggs

This is a pick of the pair before the male went crazy.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the eggs. Tolak, bizaliz3 can probably give you some ideas. He raises angels and she has also started breeding and raising them and is currently got a batch going with another member mark1999 . There are lots of good info on those threads. Alison

Thanks! Unfortunately, I've just had to move the female angelfish to another tank because I saw her left side is teared up a bit and I'd rather not have her dead. I'll be sure to ask the people you mentioned what to do.

Edit: it seems the last person you linked, mark1999, does not exist. The link goes to mark1, who was last active here 9 years ago

The @ and the name, comes up as a mention to those people which hopefully they will see and come to help. It shows up under Notifications on the top of the page near your name when you click on it. I have one Koi angelfish as a centerpiece fish . My first angelfish ever, I have had him or her for a few months. I love their personality. Just try to keep the females water as clean as you can to promote healing. Alison

Is it possible to leave the female with her eggs and move the male instead? I just feel like it would be better for Mom to be with the eggs and not Dad.

You mention that the aggressiveness started when you removed all the other fish. Sometimes it is beneficial to have some other small fish in the tank for the angels to focus their attention on instead of each other.

Both of my Angelfish pairs Ended up getting more aggressive with each other after laying their eggs. With one of the pairs I was finding that they were getting spooked by their own Reflections and then attacking each other as a result. Have you noticed them attacking the glass like they're attacking their reflection?

It's really unfortunate but some angelfish can just turn into jerks for no reason after being peaceful all their lives. But I will say that it's not unusual in my experience for angelfish pairs to be nasty to each other when they are protecting their eggs. But if you're going to remove one I suggested be the male and not the female. So can you switch that around now?

Also for the record my Angelfish pairs would stop fighting with each other when they did not have eggs or fry. If that makes you feel any better.

Some pairs, especially new ones will have some aggression issues. A divider helps with this. I've had pairs that were compatible only when they were actively spawning, otherwise a divider was needed.

Well, the angelfish actually ate all the eggs, but I guess that's to be expected. Thank you all for your help and suggestions! I'll be sure to use them when they start spawning again
