Hello,
A few days ago my baby angel stopped eating, is not active-hanging at top of tank and what appears to be worms-I’m not sure-never had this before. I need help diagnosing and what treatment. He doesn’t scratch on anything and no other tank mates appear sick.
PICTURES BELOW
My tank is a 60gal Tall Planted
1 lg angel, 1 baby angel, 4 corys, 2 Blue ram cichlids, 7 small assassin snails & 1 med b/n pleco.
0-Am
0-nitrIte
10-20 nitrAte
Temp-80 degrees
PH-8
Any help would really be appreciated.
Thanks,
Retha

Are the worms pink or red? It’s hard to tell from the picture. Do they suck back into the body when the fish is moving around? I think they may be Camallanus worms which can be a common angelfish parasite. Where did you get your angels and how long ago? It can take as long as 12 weeks for them to breed enough to be noticeable

It could be Camallanus worms though the colour seems wrong. Can you isolate the little guy? Can you get Levamisole?

If it is I wouldn’t quarantine the entire tank is infected any equipment or tanks would need to be sanitized.

That’s what I’m thinking the color seems off.

Way too fat to he camallanus worms. Also the wrong color. Camallanus worms are tiny red hair looking things.

I don't know what you have there...it almost looks like poop. But if the behavior is off..something must be wrong.

I'm not sure what....but definitely not camallanus. I'm sorry I can't be of more assistance. I hope you can figure it out

I can’t think of any other worms that could hang out the backside like that. I think that’s just it’s poop but it’s white which is an indication of internal parasites. I’d quarantine if you can and treat for parasites with medication I use metronidazole, but there are others. Raise the temp up a couple degrees. Additionally, you can soak food in the medication you can treat your whole tank with the food as well as the sick fish even if it only spits it out, the meds are still going into the body.

If the poop were white from parasites, it would also be stringy. It wouldn't be that fat and solid. It really looks like poop to me. But why are there two poops side by side?
But the lack of appetite doesn't match up with big fat solid poop either ....

The fins look a little split in areas. Has there been any aggression or bullying going on with the other Angel?

It looks like how my fish get when they are slightly constipated only the poop is food colored not white.

Colin used to get weird poops that looped back into his body. Sometimes they would break on the outside loop and it would look like 2 separate poops coming out at once.

There is no aggression. We got him at our local fish store a couple of months ago and his fins were that way already, although they are growing back. He was very active and a very good eater prior to a few days ago. These things are always white. They have only appeared in the last few days.

I don’t have another tank to put him in. Is Levamisole something I can get online to buy?

You only need levamisole if it were camallanus worms. Which this definitely is not!

Yes seachem sells it. You can order it even if you don’t end up using it. Your LFS might already have some or something similar. I recommend having metronidazole on hand either way. You can rig up a quarantine tank quite easily with just a plastic tub an air stone and a heater. If you live in the US petco is having a dollar per gallon sale right now you can get a 10 gallon for $11. A smaller tank can save on meds and if it’s bare bottom you can monitor your fish and it’s poo better. There’s definitely something wrong if your fish is lethargic and not eating.

I will definitely do that- 2 questions:
So I don’t need a filter then for the quarantine tank-just a heater and air stone?
Also, can I add a little epsom salt also to help if he is constipated?

Well, today my lights came on and my baby angel was dead. 4 days after I saw initial symptoms of not eating! Very quick!! Could it of been angelfish virus that I have read about? I know that is quick. I don’t know.
Thanks to everyone who tried to help my little guy. I really appreciate the help.

Aww, I'm sorry you lost the little guy.
I wish we could have figured out the problem. :-(

I’m sorry for your loss.

A filter is better in a quarantine tank but an air stone will work in a pinch as long as you keep the water clean. I always keep extra media that I can pull out and use if I need to.
