Angelfish eggs won't hatch

I've got two angelfish (Momolina and Sid) and every few months, they do the mouth wrestling thing and play tag and clean one of my sickly amazon sword's leafs and lay lots of eggs. then Sid (the male) chases Momo (the female) away and nips at her fins. then, the eggs all turn whitish and Sid eats them as they turn. i've herd that Angel eggs are susceptible to fungI and that I should consider putting fungicide in the water. does anyone have any other suggestions? I think baby angels would be cool!:helpsmilie:

Are you sure they are male and female, and not 2 females? Have you seen the breeding tube on the one you think is male?

Sometimes even if you have a male and female, they can't or won't spawn successfully. As long as they are not hurting each other, let them keep trying. They may get it right one of these days.

It doesn't sound like the eggs are there long enough to develop fungus. Plus, the females usually take care of them and fan them. That's not to say they still won't develop fungus. It just doesn't sound like that is what is happening with yours.

How old are they?

Do you have a strong water current in the tank?

mmm, I did see the tubie thing on them, on is like a triangle and the other is like a roundish deal. I have noticed them playing what looks like tag and some ragged fins on both. I think the male likes to 'protect' the eggs and chases the supposed female away. I do see them do mouth wrestling and nip at each other. I have never seen the 'female' fanning the eggs.

I think I have a relitivley weak current in there, I did turn off the bubbler recently because it was making a weird sound. they are about a year to 18 months old.

If it's always the same one laying the eggs then you probably have male and female. Could be the male is sterile... if he wasn't you would surely get some fertilized eggs.

He could be female. The one not laying doesn't extend it's tube fully so they look like males, but they usually take turns laying eggs...

I just got three small clown loaches to keep my double snail problem in check, will they affect the angels in terms of egg laying?

Loachs are great for eating angel eggs. They'll take quite a beating from the pair getting a good meal, sort of like how I'll BBQ in a thunderstorm. I've missed a loach or two doing tank switchery with pairs, they're great for snails, and eat eggs just as eagerly.

The fungus seen on eggs is secondary to a bacterial issue. Unless one of the two angels is infertile you'll need to work on the bacterial end. While these bacteria are totally harmless to adult fish, eggs & fry being more sensitive can be affected.

Next spawn snip off the leaf, you'll need a separate hatching tank, anything in the 2.5 to 10 gallon range will work. Clean bare bottom tank, heater, and a gentile supply of air, with 100% fresh dechlorinated water. Most folks start with a bit of meth blue in the hatching tank, 2-10 drops per gallon. On the 3rd day start 50% water changes daily, by the time you have swimmers any additives will have been removed for the most part.

Beyond the meth blue, there's acriflavin, Maroxy, hydrogen peroxide, all sorts of things that can be added to knock back the bacteria. You just have to work through it to see what works best in your individual situation.
