angelfish egg tube protruding

hI I'm a little worried about my angle (3y.5yrs), she has had multiple egg laying experiences a few that have been successful to wiggler/free swimming stage - the last lot I successfully managed to raise 3 after I made the mistake of turning their light off=(
at present the pair have been brooding and madly cleaning leaves but there is nothing happening in the egg department, her tube has been out for 3-4 days now and I'm concerned she may be egg bound.ive read through posts on here that its not particularly common for that to happen, are there any suggestions as to what it could be. I have changed the water done all the water quality jazz, they are fed bloodworms and flakes alternately, the only tank mates they have left are those pesky pointy cone like snails that I can't seem to get rid of and a few -maybe 2 or so super small baby apple snails
. what can I do to help my baby girl!!!!?????

does anybody have any help they can offer?

Welcome to Fishlore. While being egg bound is a possibility, most likely she hasn't found the right spot. If she doesn't lay the eggs, often she will reabsorb them.

I have a female that was close to breeding when her mate died. She has a new mate and is again close to spawning. They've been cleaning, chasing and fighting with their tankmates.

Give your angels more time. Odds are nothing is wrong. Monitor closely for any changes of behavior.

Thanks Dena, that may be the case, a little surprising though as she has already laid a heap of times - the last time I managed to raise 3 little cutie pie babies =p eager for them to lay again now that I know what I'm doing, I was just surprised to see her tube out for so long. I fed them some green peas and it seems to have gone back in, fingers crossed they get excited again soon =P THANKS again for ur reply =)

HI all, today after I cleaned out my angels they began showing rather aggressive behaviour towards each other locking lips etc, is this to do with some sort of mating behaviour, I have never noticed them doing this at any other time before spawing? should I be worried?

Lip locking can be mating behavior or it can be 2 males fighting.

I would suggest feeding them some good quality freeze dried or frozen foods for a few days to see if it helps. They just might not be in the perfect breeding condition yet and feeding them well will help that.

thanks guys, they are definitely a pair they are the only two in the tank and have spawned numerous times before, just never seen this display of aggression, successfully raised 3 bubs from the last lot of eggs - eager for them to lay again =p will def try feeding them up more. will keep you posted. the girl as of a few minutes ago was looking a little chewed around the area under her mouth poor thing

yikes friends, I think I need help..... just checked on my baby girl and shes fairly beaten up around the mouth, all read and meaty looking, big boy is still insisting on giving her a good thrashing, food doesn't seem to interest him, ive put up a divider between them to maybe give her time to heal, he is already looking - distressed isn't the word really- but hes not impressed there is a wall up and is trying to get to her, what should I do??????????????

took out the divider last night and he was straight back into it, fear they will never be able to be together again without it =(

It is rare, but some angels never pair off. I have experienced it once. Had an aggressive male, he killed the first 2 females I tried to pair him off with. Kept him in an all male tank and he terrorized angels that were 3 times his size. The only thing that would work was to keep this particular male alone.

If this is the same path you are going down, then you may want to consider trading him for another male.

Best of luck!

HI thx for your response, they have been together since they were little when I first got them. ive had other fish in with them but took them out once they started laying and I discovered they were enjoying them as a snack. just not sure why they have started being so aggressive all of a sudden. I was told that 3.5yrs is when they start to fully mature and the female may have been exhausted after raising her last batch to free swimming fry stage(before I removed them) and may not be in any great hurry to spawn again- even tho the male is. ive taken out their fave spawing plant and will keep the divider in for a little longer to see if things settle down, such a shame I'm so keen for them to lay again now that I know what I'm doing =p

just an update, seems like they decided to play nice after I took their fave plant out, she started cleaning the airhose to the airstone so I took the divider out - they are now playing nice and have laid on the filter of all things =p lets hope they are free swimming by the time we have to move house on the 21st of this month =/
