Angelfish colouring

I was at my lfs today and saw an angelfish that I couldn't pass up. He is red/white and black on his head fading to a cloudy/clear at the back including his fins.

I've always loved angels, but have never looked into the species within the angel class, if there are any or if they are just defined by their colouring?

Looks like you have a nice Koi angelfish. Nice straight fins. Should become a nice addition to your tank.

Angels are very sensitive to waste. As it appears your tank may not yet be stabilized, started on "Jan 1st". Or, was it started in a different year?

Started this year, stole filter media from brother in-laws tank supporting large cichlids... Tank is cycled, but I am still closely monitoring water peramiters.

While there are several different angel species, most fish seen in stores are
Pterophyllum scalare. These are divided up into color strains. Koi is one such strain.

I have seen people call what you have a Blushing Koi because of the red area around the gills that will turn bright red to pale pink depending on how the fish feels. Not that it makes any difference but I thought I would toss that tidbit of info in the soup.
