I probably over react - there was some fin rips but no actually wounds, both had inflamed fin joints thr scary part was the pinning in the corner looked like it could do some damage.…the poor platinum male was worse off after he went three rounds with the big black male one… I guess there was no sharing going to happen there. He was going for the kill imo. Stalking the platinum. I’d love to keep a small group of boys together but not going to happen in that tank ..

My experience a breeding dominant male can't go back to community life, and if there's damage of any kind with a breeding pair, that's it. The pair is broken. Sure a pair fights from time to time, the male is usually the big one, and he SHOULD back down and take the beatings from the female so disagreements are settled. He can get pushy and demanding for her to breed also and she will back him down also. But if damage is happening it's a safe bet the pair is broken and not going to work anymore. The female can be put with a different male, after a cooling and healing and feeding period,, but the male becomes kind of useless, too territorial and aggressive to get along again with other tank mates, just too many learned behaviors from spawning that are bad for a community tank setting.

You can do a group of males, but not with a dominant male that has spawned. The pair fish, male and female just become too territorial and aggressive to work out. The female can be paired with a different male, but that male, he can't really go anywhere except with more really aggressive and territorial males of similar size and it's going to be a tense tank of fish.

Thanks as aways good info. They seem happy to be spread out - The platinum breeding male is the most stressed still but he got beat up twice so I’ll give him a few days.

My angles in a community tank were actually well behaved between breeding so i think that aspect depends on indvidual fishes. I think i said this in another thread but my female while a terror with other angels was very well behaved in the community and a very good mother.
